He brought a squeaky-clean name to uat when they had just barely missed the Death Penalty and then had followed with some PR near-disasters in hiring. Shula's main features were a boyish innocence (set aside the sideline expletives--they were in reaction to public criticisms that he "wasn't in the game") and of course his connection to the school. The fact that he has been able to win some games is some icing on top of what he was brought there for. Not a whole lot of icing, either. They should expect less icing in '06. Uat fans speak highly of CMS and talk about how great he's going to be "once he's learned the ropes" and Oh, isn't he a quick study?. They post pictures of him and pictures of the late CPB and whisper in awed terms about resemblances, maybe even reincarnation. Uat-ers need to be content while the school gets out of the Valley of the Shadow of Death. When they have lived in the clean air for a while, then they can go get a tough guy who will do what it takes to win big. The current guy won't do it. Won't be governor either.
