D2 Football Bracket you'll have to save it to really get a good look at it.

For all those talking heads out there on ESPN moaning for a "true" playoff in D1, they know absolutely nothingabout the D2 bracket which has heavy tie-ins to conference champions and 'regional' rankings. Humm..sound familiar?

18 Midwestern State 22 (9-2)

19 Winona State 24 (9-2)

20 Abilene Christian 13 (8-2)

21 Elizabeth City 19 (9-2)

22 Tiffin 18 (10-1)

23 Bemidji State 25 (9-2)

24 West Chester NR (8-3)

25 Bryant NR (8-2)

SouthLink mentioned the HC at Valdosta St going to FSU to be the OC. See above; VSU is ranked ahead of Albany St. in the Southeast. VSU beat Albany St in the regular season OC game(20 to 16). VSU is ranked #10 in the National D2 poll, while Albany St. didn't crack the top 25. Albany St. has won the SAIC conf (Hist. black college conference, which IMHO is a weak conf). Thus, Albany St. gets the #6 seed in Southeast region of the bracket and VSU will start winter work-outs.

VSU is a 7 seed, ASU is an 8 seed:

7. C.W. Post (7-3) 7. Ferris State (8-3) 7. Valdosta State (8-2) 7. Pittsburg State (9-2)

8. IUP (8-2) 8 . Bemidji State (9-2) 8. Albany State (7-3) 8. Tarleton State (6-4)

that is the Regional ranking. Not seeds. VSU did not make the playoffs despite being in top 10 nationally. I believe VSU's only losses came to UNA and Delta St. (who both are in the playoffs).

It still comes down to is two loss VSU team playing in the historically strong Gulf South conf stronger then a conf champion from a weaker conf. Has anybody ever heard that before? But, you don't hear the local press in Valdosta complaining.

Now, I'm not complaining, but its intersting to see UNO (Nebraska - Omaha) as a 2. seed and ranked 11, whereas VSU is a 7 seed ranked 10 (both are 8-2). Perhaps UNO is in a more difficult conference? But even then you would think they would be ranked higher...

The only problems I see with a tournament are the ones we currently have where teams from strong conferences end up playing eachother early in the tournaments so that weaker conferences have a chance at getting in the final 4. I would imagine an NCAA div-1 tournament would include a regional almost completely made up of SEC teams.

Breakdown:

Seed v. National Ranking

1: 6, 2, 4, 1

2: 11, 3, 5, 8

----------------

3: 25, 9, 13, 7

Why can't D-1A do this?! thats 24 teams! No one is saying lets have a 24 team playoff...hell lets have an 8 team playoff... in this case it would be no. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 11...I'm guessing thats because of conference tie-ins...Who wouldn't salivate at that?! make a 10 game reg season...8 conference, 2 Non-conference...EVERYONE can see this except the important people

Why is it that fans of D-2 schools can travel around to these games and support their team but D-1A fans wouldn't be able to...Or why do D-2 kids not have to go to school but a D-1A playoff would mess up kids school schedule...Why is it that the 4 week Bball tourney doesn't affect the players in school? College Presidents talk to us like we're stupid and we don't call them out on it.

No matter how many faults the D2 playoff has it's better than letting voters and computers determine who gets to play in the MNC game.

I couldn't agree more. Getting into the playoffs really is based more on who you beat than selection from polls. And continuing in the playoffs is based on winning.
