I wonder if we had kicked that field goal with 2 mins left in the 3rd instead of going for it on fourth, would it have made a difference in us playing for a MNC. It would have given us a 4 point victory, and would have nulled the bellyaching over the rekick.

It would have made absolutely no difference, IMO. I don't remember people bringing up the fact that we won after a re-kick due to a correct (if somewhat picky) penalty call against LSU. The fact that we played The Citadel, however, was brought up ad nauseum.
