Auburn Recruiting Corner: Dyer pushes to bring Lattimore

By Evan Woodbery

AUBURN, Ala. -- Now that Auburn has landed one of the nation's top running backs in Michael Dyer, what will become of the Tigers' pursuit of two more?

Auburn isn't backing away from Lache Seastrunk (Temple, Texas) or Marcus Lattimore (Duncan, S.C). Picking up another elite back would be an impressive feat in what is the first full recruiting season for Gene Chizik and his staff.

Dyer hasn't given up the hunt for Lattimore.

"The last few weeks, me and Marcus Lattimore have had conversations and sent texts back and forth trying to figure out what's going on and to see if he's going to go to Auburn or not," Dyer told ESPN's JC Shurburtt. "I told him it would be great for both of us to come out there and tag-team and run the ball. He seemed to be very respectful like he would fit into Auburn. I have been working on him to get him to commit there. He's a nice guy and it would be pretty amazing to get him to commit to Auburn."

That would be quite the backfield. I believe if we were able to pull Lattimore, we lose Seastrunk. Not saying that would be a bad thing. It'd be nice if Dyer would go after both of them. I could see how this would be off-putting to Seastrunk

I wouldn't count on that! Seastruk knows he has big apportunities at Auburn as well as Lattimore and I'm counting on Luper and Taylor to pull the big dogs in. :cheer:

Wishful thinking...we will not get all 3 guaranteed.

Both are prizes but only one will come. Since we got Dyer I think ML is going to better fit now. It will be like Caddy and Brown again. I have to agree I think Seatruk goes out west too.

Lattimore stays in state.

I think it's a toss up between AU & Clemson. I also believe it may depend how Clemson ends up and CJ Spiller does in the Heisman. Here's my thinking...If CJ is well recognized and does well in the Heisman, Lattimore sees this as a real opportunity to be a high pick in the draft and to gain National exposure & respect. And if Clemson appears to be an up & coming program, Marcus will be interested. But if CJ doesn't get the credit since he is from an inferior conference or if Clemson loses a couple down the stretch, Lattimore loses interest.

And I think the Cocks are SOL even though they are in the SEC because the Cocks suck.

Clemson is supposedly an up and coming team every year, until they start playing games. Plus, he isn't a CJ Spiller type of RB at all.

I'm all for getting another top back, but it would sure look nice to pick up a quality offensive and defensive lineman to go with them....all good running backs need a solid line to block for them....

We already have 3 good OL and are still recruiting and will probably end up with 5-6 for this class. We also have some good DL already with 3 DEs and 1 DT, we are looking to get 1-2 more DEs and most likely 2 more DTs. We still have at least 10 spots open in this class considering at least 2 will be counting back towards last class so we have plenty of room to bring in more guys. We need to get another CB in this class, other than that I really like how this class is shaping up.

Never said he was. What I said was the perception of CJ by both the media and NFL may have an impact on whether a high profile RB would want to follow in his footsteps.

Based on the RB's we have... we really only need 2 star RB's... let's get some stud O'linemen to open up some holes. It really is all about the line... both the O'Line and D'Line determines whether a program succeeds or not.

Or Tim Tebow...I love that guy

Dyer & Lattimore would compliment each other perfectly in our backfield, a 6' 215 lb prototype RB and a 5'8" 200 lb bowling ball. Both have good hands & blocking skills.

No blame or disrespect intended, but Onterio showing an injury propensity his first year points to signing both as an added plus

You mean the same Tebow that's 0-2 vs. Auburn?

That would be the Tebow with 2 National Championships under his belt. He is the most fantastic competitor at QB I've ever seen.

With OM's size, I think injuries will always be an issue. That said, I love watching that kid play when he's healthy.

Where does Dontae Aycock fit in the size/skills/speciality/style spectrum? How will he be used after his redshirt?

I think Aycock has a similar skill set to Fannin. He is a bigger back, but still has good moves and good speed. He also played QB in an option offense in high school. He will be very much in the hunt for the feature back next year. He will have a big advantage over our freshman RBs because of the year he has had to get familiar with the offense. Dyer is obviously going to be hard to keep off the field, but Aycock will get his touches next year.

And we beat him both times he played against us. You make my point exactly.

Tebow was a specialist his freshman year, with Leak getting most of the snaps and snafus against us (honorable mention goes to UF's punter). Thank you Urban.

But, Tebow gets full credit for 2007. Thank you again, Urban.
