I believe, when the smoke clears, that this will end up with acquittals on all counts for defendants (if it makes trial), just like the Alabama state bribery trials a few years back re: kickbacks and bribery between the Injun casinos and state legislators.

college basketball. Doesn't seem to be the case at all. The ncaa is mired in its on scandal (MSU), the FBI has this now.

Meanwhile two innocent players are the victim and the coach and school are slandered.

But all is well Petino fired, and updyke academy took care of their issue in a couple of hours and have been destroying

documents, phones, covering tracks since then

JMO but bogus FBI investigations have caused way more problems than just having a couple college basketball players on the bench.

I can see it. I know it wasn't for players in a league that long, but did you ever see that 30/30 about broke NFL players? It was amazing how much they just gave away.

They seem to acquire of hangers-on and many of those athletes are good guys who just can't tell people "no".    It's a shame how it happens.  For example, a piece in al.com about Charles Barkley being scammed out of $4 million because he trusted a guy he knew and did not ask enough questions.

I don’t think an agent breaking a rule or law not associated with this investigation would destroy the investigation. However even if it did the cat is out of the bag now. Person could be off death row but it’s Auburn vs NCAA now.

and even if he is Auburn should and can not do anything except fine him or keep him off the court for a few games next year.

And people supporting the FBI like what's going on in Washington DC amaze me. I agree there are a lot of great people who work for the FBI I am sure, but don't tell me they don't have their bad apples too. No different than any organization.

It won't affect what Person did other than reduce his sentencing or improve their plea bargaining. It will still provide what the NCAA needed to do what it already did, and whatever else AU found.

I just want Coach Pearl to be here for as long as he wants, as long as he didn't break any major rules. Crucifying him by association (being the HC when Person did what he did), should not be the answer by AU administrators.

The FBI has certainly developed a very convoluted explanation for their investigation, and it may not hold up in court whether this guy is a believable witness or not.

However, it does not change the fact that Adidas was funneling money through coaching staff to players and their families. That is NCAA territory. I'm no expert, but I think the NCAA can use evidence gathered by the FBI, especially if the Adidas rep talks.

Unfortunately, NCAA regulations now say that the head coach is responsible, even if he claims he didn't know about it. I'm hoping that CBP does not get tangled up in this. I really believe that, if he had know Person was playing this game, he would have gotten rid of him immediately. Why? Because he knows he is under the spotlight already from his show cause shenanigans at Tennessee.

I'm not as worried about the FBI as I am about the NCAA. They can (and most likely will) rule these players permanently ineligible, because money did change hands. I just don't want to see CBP take the rap for this crap.

The AU case was about sports agents and marketing rights for the players.  CP just blundered into the Adidas investigation.

Sorry....misinterpreted your comments.....thought you were inferring  implying that AU was innocent.....which we apparently are not...just happened to be a different issue....but still looks they got CP dead to rights....audio tape and all......and a couple AU families too.    Hoping the actions that AU took so promptly will be the end of it for the school.

Well... from what I've read, AU technically is innocent. All that I've been able to interpret that happened, based on what I've been able to read, is that Person payed the families of players who were already on the team, in order to coerce them into signing with a specific agent after they went pro. That didn't come from AU as an entity or benefit them in anyway. It was one rogue employee acting in his own best interest and to the detriment of his employer.  As I understand it, that is how the FBI has been pursuing the issue as well and should be how the NCAA sees it.
