Popular Post StatTiger 3,188
There is no doubt the Auburn Tigers were prepared for the Music City Bowl as they delivered a dominating bowl performance. The Tigers 49-point victory was the greatest margin of victory by an Auburn squad in bowl history. It was the most points scored by an SEC team in a bowl game, breaking the previous record of 61 points. Jarrett Stidham's efficiency rating of 299.2 was the highest rating by an Auburn quarterback with at least 20 pass attempts. He saved the best performance of his career for his last start as a collegiate. The Auburn offense generated a season-high, seven plays of 30-yards or more against the Boilermakers, establishing a new collegiate record of 56 points scored by halftime in a bowl game. Darius Slayton had a career game with three receptions for 160-yards and three touchdowns. Not too mention, Stidham and Slayton missed out on an earlier deep ball that would have resulted in a touchdown. The Auburn defense also played an outstanding game. Purdue's longest play of the game was 27-yards. Purdue came into the game as the No.7 offense in generating plays of 30-yards or more. Auburn took away the run, placed constant pressure on the quarterback and forced two key turnovers. Senior Deshaun Davis closed out his career, leading the team in tackles with nine stops for the game. Auburn was the faster and stronger team, dominating the game from the outset. During the regular season, Auburn had a total of five touchdowns plays of more than 30-yards. The Tigers produced four such plays against Purdue. By the end of the first quarter, Purdue began losing its composure on the field, frustrated by Auburn's quick start. Auburn's personnel was focused, and despite substituting, Auburn was able to maintain its intensity. During the Tiger's last two possessions, Auburn ran off 24 plays for 109-yards, despite being in an ultra-conservative mode. Gus Malzahn showed mercy in the end by not scoring what would have tied the NCAA record for points in a bowl game. This game did not make up for the disappointing regular season, but it was a terrific way of closing out the year and perhaps taking another quality step forward. Once the 2019 season begins, no one will be talking about Auburn's 63-14 victory over Purdue but it does not change the fact Auburn finally put a complete game together against a Power-5 opponent this season. Regarding short-term goals, Auburn's Music City Bowl victory was a huge success. Only time will tell if it will be a step in the right direction when it comes to long-term success. War Eagle! johnnyAU 3,604
Had a blast. Sat next to a couple of great Auburn fans in Section 111, Row G, seats 23 and 24. If it was you, we enjoyed it. War Eagle.! Purdue had a strong showing in the stands and downtown. Most of them stayed well into the 4th Qtr. Most were very respectful. Hats off to 'em.

around4ever 4,139
Stat, were you counting the last possession on your point #7, Red Zone Scoring? Taking a knee inside the 1 yard line shouldn't count should it?
gctiger 916
That, my friends is how you win a ball game! You hit the opponent in the mouth so often and so hard that you destroy their will to win. I cant help but wonder how these last few seasons may have turned out had Gus taken it to FSU in the BCS game the way that he did to Pudue today. shabby 1,948
that surprised me that we only ran 4 yards per carry. I felt like the running game was working really well.

WarTiger 3,861
Stat, you may have the numbers on this, but I mentioned this in the game thread. It seemed to me we threw the ball deep more in the first half yesterday than we did in the last 5-6 games of the season combined. Could be a false perception but I don't recall us trying to stretch the field that much like we did yesterday.

My guess is the coaches saw on film that Purdue's secondary was nowhere near as good as the SEC teams we play. How that team destroyed a very good tOSU is a mystery.

Think maybe stats suffered when AU went to the slowdown late in the game.....but overall it seemed the running game was not bad when it mattered.
Eagleclaw 8
I didn't get to watch the game because of work, but I am always glad to hear win AU wins. My hat is off to the players, great ending and effort. I am still not hopeful about next season, we will be losing players but keeping the same coach. Between Willis, Gatewood, and Nix Gus will have us a stud quarterback right? Right? I mean, Gus isn't desperately trying to secure a transfer QB because he has never, I repeat NEVER EVER NEVER, developed a single high school QB and knows that we cannot win with the QBs he has on hand.
