I didn't want to start a whole new topic for this, but Skenes is an absolute animal. Dude is gassing 100mph in the 5th at the CWS right now and baffling everyone.

If Allsup goes game 1 and gives us 6 full innings and a W we are a very scary team in games 2 and 3. If Herbie is back I could see a very fun super regional. I know A&M isn't looking forward to that trip, but Stanford got an absolute buzz saw put in their regional.

Clemson is the one team I didn't want the match up with, but there's a chance Tennessee can take them. We can beat them, but there's freaking smoking hot right now. Southern Miss is a dang good team, but very beatable. I'm thinking we will start Allsup against Penn and save Vail for Southern Miss or Samford. Let's put in work and hurt some feelings!

Hoover always seems to be a weird park for us. For everyone disheartened by the last 2 days, while it wasn't great, don't get down on this team. We're about to come home and crush a few teams' hopes and dreams.

And right on cue, the game ends on a bad strike call and frame job. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't annoyed by like 4 things right now. 1. The Vandy whistler might be the most annoying person in the state of Alabama right now. 2. The 4 guys sitting behind the plate still aren't funny. 3. This ump was wildly inconsistent down the stretch. And 4. Walks killed us. In that order 😅

An inconsistent strike zone isn't helping. We've chased some bad ones, but you never know when a frame job from 4 inches off is going to get you wrung up

Baseball America currently has us at the 14 overall hosting Texas, Troy, and Samford. Texas would be a tough put, but I believe we are better than them right now.

I'd be kind of shocked if we aren't all but locked in at this point. All but certain that 1 win guarantees you. 2 wins might have you as the 12-10 overall.

I'm not totally sure. That's a great question though. I think the biggest hurdle in front of them is a lower seed in the SEC tournament than everyone else looking to host. As of right now the SEC could make a case for 8 hosts, and that's wild. LSU, Vandy, Florida, and Arkansas are almost guaranteed to be top 8 super seeds. So Auburn, Tennessee, South Carolina, Kentucky, and Alabama are all fighting for spots against a strong field of Miami, East Carolina, Coastal Carolina, Virginia, Clemson, West Virginia, Boston College, Duke, and like 3 other contenders.

OK so... The double header sweep was huge! Auburn hit 16 SEC wins today putting us in legitimate host contention. Kentucky and Tennessee are making it a little harder on us, so I think there's a little work to be done. I still think that you're hosting with a sweep. A sweep then a win in Hoover and its guaranteed. After the double header Auburn has jumped to 16 in RPI. If Florida can take the game from Kentucky tomorrow and Auburn can sweep the series I'll feel pretty freaking confident. It would be unprecedented for a 17 win, red-hot SEC team with multiple top 5 series wins to not host.

I think we would be fine going to either, but Plainsman Park would be absurd if we hosted for a second year in a row! And with expected seating additions we will take all the fans that will fit!

It's that fun time of year where we get to look at our current post season outlook and discuss what ifs! For anyone wondering, Auburn has played themselves in to some hosting conversations. Baseball America referenced Auburn and Tennessee as teams playing to put their names on the regional hosting table. As of this morning, 5/17/2023, Baseball America has Auburn as the 2 seed in the Stanford regional. D1Baseball has Auburn projected as the 2 seed at Coastal Carolina in Conway. Being a 2 seed after the way the SEC season started is fantastic in and of itself. If this team can play well this weekend I fully expect Auburn to be at the center of the hosting discussion.

Golden pretty much nailed it. It's a faulty concept later in the season that can either punish a team for a win or help a team with a loss. For instance, South Carolina went to Kentucky with #5 RPI, got swept, and left Kentucky with the (drum roll please) #5 RPI because Kentucky also had a top 5 RPI. That's why that 16 conference win mark is a more important factor, to me, when it comes to hosting potential. Problem is the selection committee will take both in to account and weigh them as they see fit.

Not just that, but playing the game lowers our RPI even if we win. It's an absolute loss for Auburn in every way.
