Which is exactly my point - why are we not able to close on these too guys? Is it NIL? Is it Under Armour vs Nike? Bruce Oearl needs to be screaming from the roof top if there if something outside his control that is holding him back. Otherwise, it appears that it is his new recruiting philosophy that is holding us back!

I expect to start beating UGA again, no matter what it takes. They were the inferior team in 2016 during Kirby’s first year but yet they found a way to win at home. I understand the talent gap, but after living through Gus & Harsin I’m just tired of excuses and moral victories. We HAVE to start winning these games that we play our tails off and have a chance to win.

Georgia has beat us 16 out of the last 19 meetings. There is no moral victory in this one. The rivalry has become embarrassing! We have to start winning these games when we have the opportunity.

100% correct - my point is how do we take the next step? I’m all for being thankful and reminding ourselves of how far we’ve come, but we also must keep working to advance our basketball program. We’ve come a long ways, but we still have a long ways to go.

This is 100% of my problem with Bruce and his staff. They continue to put all of their eggs in one basket and are left with egg on their face. They have been unable to close on some pretty big targets the last few years, for whatever reason (Under Armour brand, NIL, G-League, etc). Bruce has done an excellent job during his time at Auburn. But Bruce and his staff are not above criticism. There’s no doubt that Bruce will put a competitive team on the court every year and continue to win at Auburn. But how do we take the next step? How do we figure out how to close on some of these top prospects? I’m tired of hearing the excuses that I listed above. Put up the NIL money, change from UA to Nike, and do whatever it takes to make us elite! I’m sick of always being one step behind someone else.

We have to start competing head to head with the blue bloods. We have to learn how to close when another big-time program wants a kid. Alabama just out-recruited North Carolina for Jarin Stevenson. When have we truly beat out a blue blood for a recruit?

If I were Cohen, I would name OU’s associate head coach, Jennifer Rocha, our new head coach today! I don’t know why she hasn’t become a head coach yet because her resume is pretty impressive. She played for OU, coached at Florida and now back at OU as their pitching coach. I don’t see Patty Gasso going anywhere any time soon with the powerhouse that she’s built. She’s 61, so she could have 5-10 years left. Obviously OU would probably come calling for Rocha if she’s successful, but we would have those 5-10 years to build it up.

Butch Thompson is killing it in the portal this year! If we can somehow land Chase Burns from Tennessee and bring back a healthy Joseph Gonzalez, then we have a legit shot at a National Championship this year!

I love Bruce. I think he’s the greatest thing that’s ever happened to Auburn basketball. And I understand the challenges that he’s facing, especially since it appears we aren’t going “all-in” to the NIL market. But I don’t understand not recruiting more high school basketball players. Ex: 2024 top 30 recruit Cam Scott from South Carolina seems to be low priority for this staff. To me it’s a lazy take - you should recruit your tail off to sign all the big-time recruits that you can. Then you fill the gap in your roster with transfers. But I just don’t understand going away from high school talent since there are plenty of other schools still recruiting high school at a high level. Yes, experience is essential but you also have to have big-time talent. We don’t need to sit around and wait for the NCAA to level the playing field. We need to embrace the current system, and rebuild our roster every year if that’s what it takes. But build a roster with the best talent as possible. We can’t control or worry about what that talent is going to do at the end of every year. Just prepare to recruit and sign 6-7 players every year.
