  1. Many believe he was essentially behind the whole thing, the origins, anyway. WDE!
  2. I don't feel that confident about RB. I can't see Tank staying beyond next season. Hunter is awesome, but everyone else is, to mix metaphors, an on-paper Tiger. WDE!
  3. I'm definitely with you regarding the current circumstances at AU. I thought Mason was going to the biggest offseason get in CFB, but I didn't necessarily think it was going to happen overnight. To a degree I guess I'm just saying it's surprising what folks are willing to overlook in order to hire what they believe is a good coach. And I admit to being in that group. I've been consistently mentioning the Wilson/Hartline combo in just about every Gus-gotta-go thread over the last several years (Mel Tucker, too). He's a hardass, but his resume as a coordinator is incredible. WDE!
  4. Not saying I want them for AU, but coaches do move on and find success elsewhere. Mike Leach at Texas Tech, Kevin Wilson at Indiana, Jim Leavitt at South Florida, and though not really the same thing, DJ Durkin at Maryland. Actually, if we were in the market for an OC and WR coach I would like Wilson and Brian Hartline. WDE!
  5. I don't know, I might actually welcome such a scenario. WDE!
  6. FSU bound, but word is they might pull his offer. WDE!
  7. For perspective, if memory serves, the pinnacle of Tulsa football occurred when Malzahn and Herb Hand were co-coordinators..... WDE!
  8. I like them a lot. It's not always a great source for Auburn news, per se, but it's an excellent source for Auburn entertainment. Their content doesn't feel contrived, and the dynamic plays more like a very well-organized, focused group chat. I enjoy watching/listening a few times each week. Not sure how long the current iteration has been around, but I think they could really be something once they've lived it for a bit and refined a few things. WDE!
  9. I wonder how many names they'll scratch off their list before Napier gets a call. WDE!
  10. September 1999..... I was 25, about to finish up at AU. If I could go back in time, I wouldn't offer myself any life advice. I'd probably just shake my own hand. Maybe even salute. I was living the dream...partying every night...runnin' hos...hanging out with my friends...I could eat whatever I wanted and run it off the next day. I had been hanging out with a new girl I met in Birmingham over the summer.....she's sitting next to me on the sofa right now. Still a dime. WDE!
  11. It sucks for us, but he's Catholic, so I imagine the opportunity to play for Notre Dame was something he couldn't pass up. WDE!
  12. That works! I didn't remember Benson being that quick. Always thought of him as being more of a blunt instrument. I guess I'm confusing him with someone else. WDE! Edit: While trying to figure out who I was confusing with Benson I read he passed away late last year. RIP
  13. Don't get me wrong about Jacobs, he was a uniquely-gifted athlete and after some sustained, quality coaching became a really good player, I just think Irons was a more complete back. It's hard to gauge Davis at RB given the position switch, but he was an exceptional return specialist and was a good enough RB to hang around NFL practice squads for a long time. Lester was squarely behind Irons, then Tate, but he still had a statistically solid career. I'm only saying I think having Irons and Lester and Davis on the same same roster tips the scale toward 2004. Again, it's irrelevant since Irons was ineligible in '04 and both Lester and Davis redshirted. Regarding LJ Johnson, I really like his film. (His SO highlight tape is awesome too.) Great balance, great instincts. He reminds me of Larry Johnson, the PSU/Chiefs back. Fingers crossed. WDE!
  14. If we're talking about talent on the roster---and I realize this is all academic---I would give the nod to the 2004 RB roster over 2003. We lost Brandons Jacobs and Johnson after '03, but Kenny Irons transferred to AU in '04. Very different skill sets, and obviously he was ineligible in '04, but I think a healthy Irons was a better back than Jacobs. I don't remember there being much of a drop off from Johnson to Slaughter at FB. Also, Brad Lester and Tristan Davis were freshmen in '04. Lester had a pretty good college career, and while Davis was primarily a safety at AU he was a good enough RB to hang around NFL rosters for four or five years. WDE!
  15. Shon Coleman (3rd, 2016) and Braden Smith (2nd, 2018) were pretty close. WDE!
  16. I know we were/are hoping for the best, but to be frank, I'm not sure we should have expected much more. With our OG commits already signed and no OT prospects committed, we replaced the position coach three weeks before NSD. The fact that we brought in a guy with a reputation for being an average recruiter only made the situation more difficult. Just our bad luck it happened at a position of need. This is by no means an argument for fighting tooth and nail to keep Hand, just an observation about how such moves don't happen in a vacuum. As I understand it, when Hand left it cost us a ton of momentum with OTs Gouraige and Barnes. I believe it was H.P. Lovecraft that said, "From even the greatest of horrors irony is seldom absent." Might have been Alanis Morissette, I get them mixed up sometimes. WDE!
  17. Same here. I only have so much hate in my heart, and I feel like UGA is causing me to lose perspective on what's really important in life. WDE!
  18. Let's be real, Auburn isn't a place where you learn on the job how to not get it done. I mean, it's in the freaking alma mater, somewhere in the middle. "Hear the student voices swelling, echoes strong and clear, Don't add too many WRs to the roster, we'll be screwed until next year." WDE!
  19. If we sign so many WRs it negatively impacts our ability to meet other, greater needs I'll start trashing Kodi for being too good at the job. WDE!
  20. Sometimes those shots can be too good to be true. Friend of mine said he was in his old farm truck coming back from a tree stand. When he stopped to unlatch a gate he noticed a nice looking buck just standing there. He said he considers himself a sportsman and a responsible hunter and it crossed his mind this wasn't fair.....but it had been a bad season. Passenger window was down so he calmly picked up his pistol and took aim. Unfortunately for him he was more concerned with the ethical dilemma than what happens when you fire a large bullet from inside a metal box. He said he's absolutely convinced that while his head was spinning and his ears ringing the deer snatched his keys and tossed them into the bed of fire ants. WDE!
  21. I wouldn't necessarily call him elite, but Herring was pretty dang good. If memory serves, he was all-SEC at DB, and holds (or held) the AU record for games started. WDE!
  22. If I'm reading his bio correctly, he coached Lutz in high school. Also, didn't we hire Kodi away from Graham/Lindsey? WDE!
  23. I posted that with the deepest of sighs and an eye roll so dramatic I experienced a little vertigo. WDE!
