  1. One of the things I love about the new model is that the first four games are played at the higher ranked team's home stadium. This will educe a lot travel costs for some fans. I also greatly hope I see the day that Alabama or Georgia has to travel to Michigan or Ohio or some other cold venue in the middle of winter. (Yes, I realize that could just as easily happen to Auburn.)
  2. That decision to give the Alabama quarterback unlimited time to throw the ball on that 4th and 31 play is about as close as it comes to a textbook example of a single play meriting a coaching personnel change.
  3. Yes -- against Cal. Uniform decisions don't trigger wins or losses.
  4. KJ wearing black tuxedo and red tie. Hmmm.
  5. Does anybody know what the latest is on the apparel contract stuff? I thought our contract with Under Armour expired many months ago.
  6. 40 years ago, I had a shirt that read "My two favorite teams are Auburn and whomever is playing Alabama". That still holds true. Michigan deserves to get punished -- by the NCAA. But that is a completely separate matter from what should happen in the playoffs. I hope Michigan finds a way to curb stomp Alabama.
  7. I like how there is music all through the video, except for the Kick Six. Rightly so, that one play which is the greatest in the history of college football, can stand on its own!
  8. He was here only one year, but David Gibbs as Defensive Coordinator. "Honk if you sacked Brodie"
  9. Welcome to the forum! Enjoy the game. I'm an Auburn alum ('94) that now lives in Iowa. Unfortunately, I haven't been down to Auburn in two decades, so I can't tell you much. Hopefully some other people will reply to you. Have a great time and if Auburn wins, be sure to head to Toomer's Corner before leaving town. -Bryan
  10. If anybody thinks we just needed a different coach to make this team into a good team, they aren't really following our team's drop off in talent over the last 5-6 years. I think Hugh Freeze will turn this team around, but it will take time. Our next recruiting class is ranking 14th. But the year after that is currently ranked 4th! Keep recruiting!
  11. I just don't see how Payton Thorne can be the QB anymore. There were too many times on Saturday where he looked terrified. In hindsight, it seems clear to me that there is a reason why he wasn't going to be the starter at Michigan State and decided to transfer. I like Robbie, but we need him at wide receiver and to let him run jet sweeps. If we want to let him continue to take snaps on select plays, then fine. Holden has to be the guy going forward, though. We need to start Holden on Saturday and pray that our O-Line can block for him.
  12. Auburn fans are going to have to come to grips with the fact that the problem is our lack of recruiting in the last several years. No coach could right this ship in a handful of games -- because the problem isn't a coaching problem. We have no 5 stars on a team playing in a league where there are 5 stars everywhere. And we haven't had a decent offensive line in years. I like Gus, but he stopped recruiting offensive linemen and Harsin didn't recruit anybody. Hugh Freeze realizes how bad our talent situation is but it is going to take time. His stop-gap solution of last year's transfer portal helped the situation, but it was just an effort to stop the hemorrhaging. It is going to take serious recruiting to fix this problem. We have no QB right now, and yet we had a 5 star legacy QB who had to leave our school that he has loved for his entire life because he realized that if he stayed here it would destroy his NFL potential because he was running for his life on every freaking play! What our previous coaches have done to our offensive line should be considered a criminal act. RECRUIT! RECRUIT! RECRUIT!
  13. Question: do portal transfers contribute to our recruiting rankings?
  14. There used to be talk from many places about how the season was getting too long. That was back when you might only play 11 games plus a bowl game. I guess in this world of NIL, we no longer care to believe these are student athletes. We now play 12 regular games, possibly a conference championship game, and possibly 4 playoff games -- a 17 game season! I'd also support a full 16 team playoff, where every game but the championship is played at the higher ranked team's home stadium. Ditch all bowl games, but also ditch the conference championship games, which don't really matter any longer. Finally, consider going back to 11 or even 10 regular season games.
  15. Prime is living rent-free in all of you guys' heads. I wanted us to hire Prime. It didn't happen. Regardless of whether you like him, or not, time to move on.
  16. Time to move this thread to the Rivals forum.
  17. I don't personally have much use for these kinds of debates. I have no desire to argue that we are the more elite program between the two, just like I don't like the elitism that Alabama fans exude when talking about other programs. My take: let's work every day to destroy our opponents on the field. Let our actions on the field make our statements for us!
  18. There has been a lot of back and forth on this forum in the last 18 hours over the hiring of Hugh Freeze. I fully understand, and can appreciate that many fans are disappointed with the hire. It would be very convenient for all of us if we had hired a great coach who had not made any big mistakes in their life. Everybody is obviously entitled to their opinion, I won't try to change anybody's opinions about this hire. I do wish to say one thing about Auburn University, however. The easy thing for Auburn to do would have been to run away from Hugh Freeze -- just like most other schools appear to have done. I'm proud that our institution is willing to forgive and offer people second chances. "I believe in the human touch, which cultivates sympathy with my fellow men and mutual helpfulness and brings happiness for all. I believe in my Country, because it is a land of freedom and because it is my own home, and that I can best serve that country by “doing justly, loving mercy, and walking humbly with my God." 20. "Sources tell FootballScoop that Ole Miss matched Auburn's offer in terms of salary and exceeded their SEC West bunk mates on the length of their commitment to the 47-year-old coach. Ole Miss circumvented Mississippi state law preventing state institutions from offering contracts longer than four years by financing it through the university's private foundation." 21. Back in 2007, Alabama essentially wrote out a blank check for Nick Saban. He immediately became the highest paid coach in college football. It was an astronomical amount of money, at the time. But, they were willing to do whatever it took to return their team to greatness. Obviously, Auburn has money to spend. We have spent millions and millions to send coaches packing in the last few years. I'm not sure whether Lane Kiffin will be our next coach, or not. But I don't understand paying him the amount of money it is going to take in order to pull him away from Ole Miss. I don't understand why Auburn doesn't offer Dabo Swinney, an absurd amount of money, say 12-13 million and make him refuse to take it. He has more of a track record of success than Lane Kiffin. I would rather us pay obscene amounts of money to hire coaches than pay that money to fire coaches.
  22. This is all going to look absurd if this was just a tweet by Jon Sokoloff designed to give MSU an edge in Thursday night's Egg Bowl. When I see Lane Kiffin's "counter-tweet" about Sokoloff taking a job at another TV station, it makes me ponder why Kiffin went to so much trouble to think that up if he is planning to leave Ole Miss. It is one thing to deny something in an answer to a question -- that is easy. But going to the trouble to think up a clever counter-tweet to get back at somebody? That seems like a lot of extra, unnecessary work.
  23. Lane Kiffin isn't my first choice. That would be Deion. However, I will say that if Kiffin is our coach, I hope he comes in and scores win after win in recruiting and in the portal and is very successful here. I will also add this: By many, many accounts, Lane Kiffin has been our top interest ever since Harsin was fired. If that is true and we have successfully hired the guy that we wanted all along, I will count that as another win. I'm tired of coaches turning us down as has happened in past searches.
  24. I think there might be something to the argument that he has already agreed to come here and that agreement explaining Ole Miss' performance last night. It is kind of reminding me of when Kiffin accepted the FAU job. Alabama was preparing for a national championship game and Saban told him to hit the road. Saban may have seen something very similar -- perhaps Kiffin was completely checked out of Alabama game prep and had totally moved on.
