  1. In my opinion, Franklin would be an awful hire. You can't legitimately argue that he would be better at Penn State if only he had access to more talent. Penn State can easily recruit nationally and there is no reason that he shouldn't be able to go head to head in recruiting battles with Ohio State and Michigan. So this leads me to the only conclusion . . . what you see at Penn State is the best that he can do.
  2. https://twitter.com/i/web/status/1593347634412019715 Lane Kiffin has a received a new contract offer from Ole Miss that would make him one of the ten highest paid coaches in college football. It's now a waiting game to see if he will receive an offer from Auburn.
  3. I may be in a minority here and I know it will never happen, but the SEC should just ditch the conference championship game. When it was implemented, there was no playoff, there wasn't even the BCS. It doesn't really make sense in a modern playoff world.
  4. That is an interesting statement. I will respectfully disagree, though. Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not saying that we should hire whomever the players want. However, I do take issue with the idea that the players have no idea what they are talking about. If we had listened to the players more, over the last two years, we wouldn't have lost so much talent or be stuck where we are currently. Many of them were trying to tell us something about Harsin, but we didn't listen well enough.
  5. I imagine that most Auburn fans are like me . . . I didn't know what to think in February. I hoped that Harsin was just instilling some culture changes and that it was just some players who didn't "fit" or were "weak", etc. But, I wondered if there was any truth to the rumors. But like most Auburn fans, I didn't really know where the truth resided. Regardless, I'm happy we are past the Harsin era and am hopeful that we will soon be waking to the next bright chapter!
  6. But is there any proof that he can recruit down South? Is there anything that indicates that he willing to recruit 365 days a year 24x7?
  7. I see the same thing in his comments. In listening to Cadillac's comments post game last night about the players needing to be loved and to know that they can make mistakes, it sure seemed like he was indirectly speaking about the recently departed coaches. Thanks, Cadillac!
  8. I hope that we don't drag our feet on a coaching hire. Right now, Auburn is the best open position, but I'm starting to question whether TAMU might actually fire Jimbo Fisher. They are probably going to lose to LSU, meaning they will finish 4-8, at best. I'd be shocked if they paid his buyout, but if there is a school has the money to do it, it is TAMU. I'm not saying that TAMU is a better job than Auburn, but they can probably pay more -- if they want to. I'd hate for the TAMU position to open up this year.

  10. Looking at that list provided by @banditmwp I just have a deep sense of sorrow for all of the QB potential that has been wasted in the last decade at Auburn. I so desperately want to see an end to that.
  11. I mean zero disrespect to those who are in favor of hiring Dan Lanning. Maybe you have some insight that I do not. However, this just seems like it would be a total JABA hire. Several schools in our conference swing for the fences and go out and hire big name coaches. Hell, LSU actually hired a coach away from Notre Dame! We are the most appealing open job in the country this year and what do we consider? We consider hiring somebody who has spent one year at Oregon. I'm not saying he isn't good. However, Auburn fans need to ask themselves, if Saban were to retire this year, would Alabama go out and hire Lanning. I think that answer is an emphatic no.
  12. Thanks, Captain Obvious! I thought the original poster was responsible for the next hire. 🙄
  13. The main problem with this thread is the title of it: Instead, how about the Auburn family REFUSE to settle this time?!
  14. I agree 100% For the first time in a long time, Auburn looked like they wanted to win a game. They played hard and the offensive line even was opening holes for our running backs! War Eagle!
  15. I don't want a guy that can compete with Saban, I want a guy that can crush Saban. Hire Deion Sanders!
  16. Who cares?! If Prime leaves Auburn on his own, for another job, then that will have meant that he was doing very well here. Great! I would rather have the best coach here and be forced to pay him to stay, than to hire somebody who isn't in demand at other schools.
  17. Today's Locked on Auburn podcast also talked about how Deion is a better cultural fit for Auburn than Lane Kiffin. They made the case that both are great coaches, but Deion will fit in better.
  18. I don't understand this thread. Can somebody please dumb it down for me? The subject line says "signs point to lane passing", and then the OP has nothing but an image of a road sign saying "passing lane ahead". I get the references. But, with no text to accompany the original post, is this supposed to be taken very seriously -- that Lane isn't interested? Or is this supposed to be taken in a joking manner?
  19. Mike Gundy is 3-14 all time vs. Oklahoma. Honestly, I'm surprised that Oklahoma State hasn't fired him, already.
  20. I struggle to understand this view of Kiffin. He is good at the portal, but not at recruiting. The numbers don't back that up. However, I will say that maybe the NIL stuff is changing how recruiting works and I'm open to the idea that maybe what defines recruiting is changing before our very eyes. If so, maybe Lane is the better guy in the new model.
  21. "The Rebels' recruiting class of 2023 is among the smallest in the Power Five, with just five commits — two four-stars and three three-stars. It ranks No. 61 nationally in the 247Sports Composite rankings, No. 13 out of 14 SEC teams and eighth-worst among all Power Five programs. Only Arizona State and Auburn have fewer players committed." https://www.clarionledger.com/story/sports/college/ole-miss/2022/07/10/ole-miss-football-recruiting-rankings-summer-commits-trend-lane-kiffin/7810299001/ “I don’t think Lane cares enough about recruiting to want to have to fight the battle for the kid,” said a coach from South Mississippi. “He’d rather show up, be Ole Miss, and win it.” “I just don’t think that’s (recruiting) Lane’s shtick,” said the same coach. “Some people think he’s a great recruiter, and I really don’t. I don’t think he gives a s*** about it, to be 100 percent honest. That’s why it wouldn’t surprise me if he left this year.” https://atozsports.com/nashville/why-lane-kiffin-is-probably-leaving-ole-miss-after-this-season/
  22. It has been well documented elsewhere that Lane doesn't like recruiting, unfortunately.
  23. If there is truth to this, then I hope the details come out soon. People like Rece Davis and other can then eat crow.
