  1. It’s nice to see us actually giving Jaylin the ball. He’s a great passer as well as a scorer from the elbow and it seems like we didn’t do it enough last year. We’re top 15 nationally in assists. That passing from our new guards is helping JWill as much as anything.
  2. JWill played a great half. Donaldson and Holloway had a good rotation. Denver Jones hit shots. Chris Moore was playable. Cardwell ran the floor well and played physical. CBM added his game. Johni Broome still needs to get going. That was our best half of basketball this year. We can get even better than that. If they can play to their potential at the right time we’re built to beat anyone.
  3. I wish Bruce would pick a lineup and ride it for a while
  4. I think we have a very good team but they might not look great until mid February. We might have our best team in March but drop a few more painful games. If we can’t shoot the ball much worse than this, then we have to shoot the ball better. I still think we’re a 5 seed.
  5. I’m just kind of wondering, how many games did Peyton Thorne win you this year that Holden Geriner couldn’t win you, and how much did we spend on him? We need a lot of players and a transfer portal QB is going to be expensive.
  6. Basketball is tough because you really need to be in synch second by second. I’m waiting until late January to really have an opinion about this team. They look good, with potential to expand. Right now we’re top 16 in kenpom so basically a 3-5 seed for the tournament. If that holds it’s one of the best seasons in Auburn history. Just keep playing. Denver and KD can give more but we’re passing the ball better, we’re defending better, we’re doing a lot of things better this year.
  7. Man the bench was really bad last year. I was just flipping around the stats. Our bench was no bueno. Lior Berman and Chris Moore playing minutes again Houston and Arkansas was crazy. The team is much better overall now.
  8. Through 6 games he’s shooting 56% from 3
  9. They have a lot of new pieces, they’ll get better and better the more they play together (a lot like us). Should be fun to watch.
  10. Buzz Williams is annoying as hell. He’s always dressed like a magician and he walks on the court.
  11. Just being honest flanny was way better than CMO and it was bizarre that Bruce wanted to split those minutes 50-50. Flanigan scores more, assists more, rebounds more, and does everything at a higher level. Yes the poor shooting was a problem last year and we should’ve countered that by hammering JWill at the free throw line and Flanigan on the low block. Bruce doesn’t run offense. He lets playmakers create on offense. That’s why we sign such great guards like Sharife and Holloway. Last year was like watching a slow motion car crash because you could see fixable problems with the team and they never got fixed. Wendell also couldn’t drive the train. He’s also not the first wing player that has underperformed in Bruce’s offense. Ole Miss is calling up about 6 isolations for Flanigan on the block a game and he’s converting a high number of those designed plays. Chris Beard is doing a better job of unlocking that particular player’s potential at Ole Miss. That’s not to say that I don’t appreciate and enjoy watching us play ball. I’d like to see us take advantages of mismatches on offense more this year. I think that’s possible with better guard play from Holloway and Donaldson. I’ve also been impressed with KDs passing ability this year too. I look forward to a great season of Auburn basketball. I really want to win an SEC Tournament game and make it to the sweet 16.
  12. True. They don’t have much outside Flanny and Murrell.
  13. Unfortunately, Hugh Freeze has developed a well-documented pattern of laying a complete egg against lesser teams at least once a year. I don’t understand what’s going to be different when we have 5 stars at every position if the coaches can’t prepare them.
  14. I agree with that. I just can’t overlook the fact that Hugh Freeze has had a loss each of the last three seasons where his team was favored by 20+. Doesn’t make me optimistic for the next few years.
  15. If you didn’t have a viable alternative or vision for the future then it’s hard to say that the firing was justified. Again, we went to two new years six bowls, won the west twice, won the SEC, competed for a national title, and came up short of the college football playoff a couple of times. We’re so far away from the level of success we had under Gus and there’s no reason to believe that Hugh is going to get back to that level of success. His first season was a failure and it’ll take a long time to erase what they did last Saturday.
  16. And even with all those shortcomings of the Malzahn era we haven’t been anywhere near as good since he left. My family has had season tickets for over 50 years and I’m about to say screw it and do something else with my fall Saturdays. That’s just me.
  17. Ehhh I disagree. You fire Gus after going 6-4 against an all SEC schedule in the middle of COVID. And before that from 2016 to 2019 you went to a sugar bowl, an SEC title game, a disappointing but competitive 2018, and a very competitive 2019 squad that dropped some heartbreakers at Florida and LSU. I just think you have to take a step back and acknowledge that we were consistently towards the top of the SEC from 2016 through 2019 and we’ve been so much worse since then.
  18. Just being fair, Hugh Freeze has always laid a couple eggs per season. And I went back and watched his 2014 team ranked number 8 in the country at Arkansas lose 30-0. They played that soft zone all night and Brett Beilema and Arkansas just ate it alive. I miss Gus and Kevin Steele and I wish we would’ve just stuck with Gus or Steele instead of firing him in the middle of COVID. We traded in Gus for a series of inferior coaches and looking back on it I’m ashamed of the way that we treated him. We’re walking into the desert of college football and I don’t think we’re going to come out of it for years.
  19. Got you. Yeah it was hard to watch him at times. They’ve changed the rule this year so that the offensive player gets like a full extra second advantage.
