Was hoping we would be a little higher then 6th.

The Auburn men's golf team debuted at No. 6 in the Golf World/Nike Division I College Preseason Coaches' Poll, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America on Wednesday.

"It is nice to be considered as a top team by your fellow coaches," head coach Nick Clinard said. "We have a lot of talent this year and the guys are working hard, however, we haven't proven anything yet. We look forward to having some guys step up into leadership roles and take this team to the top.

After a season in which the Tigers won three tournaments, Auburn returns four of its top six scoring leaders from last season. Leading the team will be senior All-American Dominic Bozzelli, who was second on the team in scoring (72.00) last season and became the first Auburn golfer in history to win back-to-back tournaments after medaling at the U.S. Collegiate and Gator Invitational.

Auburn begins its season Sept. 7-9 in Dalton, Ga., where it will defend its championship at the Carpet Capital Collegiate.

Auburn is one of six SEC schools to be ranked in the poll along with No. 1 Alabama, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 10 Texas A&M, No. 12 Florida and No. 19 Georgia.

The Golf World/Nike Division I Coaches' Poll combines the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America. The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III, NAIA and NJCAA will appear in the September 3, 2012 issue of Golf World.
