I know ya'll are complaining about Harvard and all about the Sagarin Computers but.... The following makes absolutely no sense at all:

USC = 11 - 0 with 2 top 10 wins and 5 top 30 wins and a SOS of #10

Oklahoma = 11 - 0 with 1 top 10 win and 4 top 30 wins and a SOS of #23

Lets see... 2 is better then 1.... 5 is better then 4... 10 is better then 23

HOW THE HELL IS OKLAHOMA RANKED #1 !?!?!?!??! AND BY SOO MUCH!

My Letter:

Hey Jeff, I have done BCS research papers for the past 5 years or so and always felt the computers were a nice addition and have supported them. I mean, they are an unbiased poll. But I have a question:

USC = 11 - 0 with 2 top 10 wins and 5 top 30 wins and a SOS of #10

Oklahoma = 11 - 0 with 1 top 10 win and 4 top 30 wins and a SOS of #23

Lets see... 2 is better then 1.... 5 is better then 4... 10 is better then 23

Will you please explain how your computer came out with Oklahoma #1 in your poll (used with the BCS) and by such a large margin.

I also find it funny that William & Mary is #26 with a 10-2 record and SOS of 120, but I have no exact data to figure out why UTEP, Ohio St., West Virginia, Purdue and Florida deserve higher rankings - So I won't contest that

Jeff's response:

Those schedule strengths in my file are computed off of

the "RATING", not the ELO-CHESS.

When you have undefeated teams and you're using a system

which IGNORES SCORES (ELO-CHESS), then the undefeated

teams will pretty much be listed in order of who had the

"best" victory (based on ELO, and taking into account

the home edge).

Oklahoma's victory over Texas on a NEUTRAL FIELD would

be the best, and Southern Cal's victory at home over California

would be the second best. And Auburn's victory over Tennessee

at Tennesse would be third.

No witty remarks

Is he saying it is tougher to play at a neutral field than to play at Tennessee?

If so, this guy is an idiot

no...hes saying that it is tougher to play TEXAS(#3 at the time) is tougher to play than Tennesee away. I'll have to agree with him on this one. I mean, Tenn is not a very good team this year. I know they were ranked high when we played them, but they shouldn't have been. And them losing to ND doesn't help us.

That's the same Texas team that needed a miracle to beat Arkansas 22 - 20. The same Arkansas team that AUBURN beat 38 - 20. The same Arkansas team that Florida beat 45 - 30. The same Arkansas team that LSU beat 43 - 14.
