We stopped them on 3rd down, just couldn't stop them on 4th down. If that were a sound philosophy, nobody would ever punt. USCe did that because they knew our defense deserved zero respect and the results in that game and those following it proved their point. The real motivation was they knew their defense would not stop us. That may be, but ole ball coach knew ole pawpaw couldn't keep up. And he knew that the quick slant would be a problem for our db's because they don't use proper bump n run coverage technique. And probably wasn't taught on how to do it. We fired the guy already...
