Bill O'Reilly

Just nit picking but O'Reilly and Williams aren't journalists. I can't anything on Fox News about this. Do you have link for their comments?

They are journalists. That is the broad category for what their career field is. Specifically within that category they are commentators, anchors. Others are reporters, investigative reporters, etc.

Here's the link:

Asked about O’Reilly’s statements Friday, a Fox News spokesman said that O’Reilly was not an eyewitness to any bombings or injuries in Northern Ireland. Instead, he was shown photos of bombings by Protestant police officers.

The manufactured righteous indignation in here about Bill O'Reilly is hilarious.

Media Matters, which calls itself a media watchdog group but, interestingly enough, only seems to watchdog conservative media, has put 45 employees working around the clock to nail O'Reilly. If what they have found was 10 times worse than what they have put out it would still be nothing but the usual suspects are all up in a rage over it. What a surprise! :nopityA:

"Media Matters, which is based in Washington, employs roughly 45 researchers. According to Bradley Beychok, the group's president, all of these researchers have been tasked with helping the effort to expose past instances in which O'Reilly lied about his personal experiences. Beychok runs the day-to-day operations, but Brock said he checks in "multiple times a day" to weigh in and give advice."

(POLITICO Video: CBS's coverage of 1982 Falklands War)

"We start our day at 5 a.m. and go till midnight," Beychok said. "This guy has had a long journalism career, so there's a lot of material. Once we've gone through all that material, we'll decide how to proceed. But we don't plan to back up one inch at this moment."

Brian Williams was exposed by US Military personnel accounts in the Stars and Stripes an independent military news publication.. Bill O'Reilly is being attacked from the left for no other reason than they want to see someone, anyone, who they despise on the right, go down. Good luck wit dat. Since this story broke, FOX ratings have being going up sharply.....Roger Ayles is laughing all the way to the bank.

Your spin to defend this guy is hilarious. Brian Williams got what he deserved. Bill O'Reilly is being shown to be a pathological liar, which seems to make him your hero. Roger Ailes is all about the bank-- he plays guys like you while counting his money. You make it too easy for him.

Im not defending anyone. I simply pointed out facts. Disprove a single statement I made Tex. And, BTW, when did you EVER have a problem with a liar?. You adore and defend every lie your hero BHO has told and his lies, believe it or not, really do matter. How much of O'Reilly's commentary really matters?

This whole thing is begining to smell. Who is the FOX "spokesman" referred to in the WaPo article?

http://www.washingto...c9a9_story.html

I haven't seen any response from any name at Fox or any response from O'Reilly himself whih eems odd. I do find the last two paragraphs in the article interesting and the comments by Cohen and Balboni.

Looks like if anything the article has resulted in even higher rating for O'Reilly. The WH and Holder sure won't like that outcome.

It's not manufactured outrage and who exposed it doesn't matter. Either the charges stick or they don't. Either O'Reilly has exaggerated or in some cases lied about his experiences or he hasn't. It doesn't matter if Satan himself if the one putting it out there. The only thing matters is, "is it true or not?"

Increasingly, it's looking like the charge that O'Reilly has, on multiple occasions, claimed to have been places he hasn't or seen things he did not or otherwise exaggerated his experiences has legs. That's the bottom line. And in making the remarks he did on the NBC/Brian Williams case, he opened himself up to this level of scrutiny.

It smells because they didn't name the Fox spokesperson? And because Fox isn't trumpeting this scandal themselves?

Give me a break. If this were a liberal journalist like Rachel Maddow, you wouldn't be straining at gnats to discredit it because a paper said an "MSNBC spokesperson" commented but was unnamed and MSNBCs website wasn't talking about it.

If you are willing to accept it that way so be it. Time will tell.

It just seems odd that there isn't a bigger outcry about it by now.

It only seems odd to you because it's a conservative that's under the microscope. I highly doubt it would bother you if it were Wolf Blitzer or Keith Olbermann under this scrutiny.

Fox has zero incentive to talk about this much. It hasn't hit a critical mass yet to where they HAVE to address it. The playbook for something like this is to lay low and do your internal investigation, get your ducks in a row and decide whether it's something you fight or how you're going to frame your admission. But you don't make noise about it until you've decided for sure which way the wind is blowing.

It is not at all unusual for spokespersons for an organization to be unnamed.

Yes, now we are getting somewhere. Ratings and Partisanship are not to be underestimated. Never let the truth get in the way of either.

You left out some interesting parts:

Brock also sees some poetic justice in the fact that O'Reilly's accountability is being called into question.

"O'Reilly has always portrayed himself as a truth-teller. But when we started Media Matters ... O'Reilly was the one who clearly stood out as uncomfortable with the accountablity side," Brock said.

"Very early on, he put us on the map by smearing us night after night," he said. "He's always been sensitive to the accountability effort."

O'Reilly may very well have some people gunning for him, but that doesn't make him a victim nor does it make him innocent.

He set himself up as a target by building his image on "truth telling" ("No Spin Zone"). He bragged specifically about the key difference between him and everyone else is the things he "bloviates on" weren't imagined. His self-righteousness regarding Brian Williams didn't help.
