Junior guard Jared Harper @vino_11_ of Pebblebrook (GA) has committed to Auburn

“I chose Auburn because of the coaching staff and the location,” said Harper about choosing the Tigers.

Harper is a smaller guard that has played both backcourt positions for Pebblebrook, can fill it up in a hurry, and is one of the state’s best shooters. What he lacks in size, he makes up for in toughness.

“After spending time with the coaches at Auburn, they were confident in my abilities to run the point and stretch the defense with my shooting ability,” Harper told HoopSeen.com.

5'10" and mostly small schools showing interest? Long time til he signs... Maybe he can grow a foot between now and then? I'm guessing he is a 3 point specialist because 5'10" doesn't help us beat KY in the future. BP must see some serious potential there.

Yes, can't see why BP wants another very small guard. Let's hope he does grow at least 6" before he arrives at AU.

At this point I'm going to trust Coach Pearl to recruit what we need.

I agree, hence why I said BP must see some serious potential there. 5'10" guys usually fit into 2 categories, guys that are just too talented to keep off the court or guys that might have made it if they were taller. Let's hope he is the first

My understanding is that at the elite camps he excelled at the outside shot/3-pt shot and was exceptional at running the offense.

Can't wait till he is in the Orange and Blue!

I'm so glad we have critics on here that know more about basketball talent than Pearl, Person & Co. know. It's nice to be in on the real inside scoop, knowing we're going after players that aren't any good. Maybe before they make another road trip to look at a recruit our coaching staff should check in here and make sure the prospect is acceptable to our resident experts?

In the meantime, congratulations to Jared Harper, you've chosen a fine school that will provide you with every opportunity to succeed. Welcome!

Kinda like second guessing coaches about linebacker play and the number of signings we've done. Guess Gus & co should check in here and make sure it is acceptable to our resident experts.

Bingo. And for the record, no one here ever even doubted why the coaches wanted him, just wondered the reasoning. Go be a hypocrite somewhere else

Let's calm the rhetoric down a few notches. We are all Auburn fans/supporters. No need to criticize how we express our love for the team and yearning for great teams.

It looks like this kid can flat out shoot. The Isaiah Thomas reference looks to be spot on.

Not only shoot, but has a real court vision/knowledge to run offenses. He may be a 3 star now, but I could see him becoming a four star eventually. I think only his height is what has him at 3 anyways.

I get it that coaches clearly know more than this entire board and recruiting services combined but his offer list certainly doesn't look like major programs are interested. I also think looking at offer lists means more than how many stars a kid gets but there have been many kids who dont get big offers who can really play...hello Steph Curry

Yes, no one is questioning the kids ability or perhaps why the coaches are so high on him, just his lack of height.

Not at all. I never second guess about linebackers, I wait until I see the lack of positive results. By watching the play on the field we all know the LB position has been under recruited. The jury is still out on the two 2014 signees and of course the FOUR (4) 2015 LB signees haven't had a chance yet but there are enough of them that they may make a positive difference.

Just like this Harper kid has a chance to make a difference. When we've gone four years without an AU BB guard making any sort of all-SEC team, not even any honorable mentions, then we can gripe about the BB guards just like we can gripe about the current FB linebackers right now.

In the meantime, recruits and freshmen need a chance to show what they can do. If by the time their soph year is over they haven't shown anything, then it's time to gripe.

Anyone notice that little point guard that team in blue and white used this season, number 3 I think. About 5 foot nothing, quick as a cat, played the most minutes of any freshman on the team this season?

You don't have to be as tall as a tree to play guard in the SEC, or basketball at any level.
