Where's the defense?

Watched two defensive powerhouses (KSU and TCU) battle it out in a 52-45 game last night and see that 22 other FBS teams scored at least 45 points and in a couple cases, that was not enough to win.

Gotta admit that watching that shootout was fun......last team with the ball looked like it would be he winner but KSU could not pull it off.

Meanwhile, wondering how many defensive advocates were glued to the Wake Forest vs Boston College where two top 20 defenses met to fight it out.

Not surprisingly, the defenses prevailed and the game ended 3-0 where the Deacs (who had a total of 124 yards of offense and 5 first downs) managed to stop BC with a goal line stand at the one as time ran out when the Eagles went for the win...and somehow managed to only get off three plays in the last minute of the game with a chance to tie or win.

Man that had to be exciting watching those 18 punts, 150 yards in penalties and 5 turnovers....and some Les-like clock management at the end. zzzzzzzzzz

Michigan just recorded its 3 straight shutout. Now that is impressive. There is always an outlier.

You know what's really impressive? The difference in the Michigan offensive line play under Harbaugh. Wow.

Good point...

PS...and unlike Wake and BC...Mich seems to have enough offense to take advantage of their good defense..whereas Baylor for example has enough offense to counter their non-existent defense.

But.... But.... But.... I thought we were excited to see an Auburn defense circa early 2000's where we only give up 14 ppg!

Cause most people these days are actually excited about the idea of Auburn giving up 30-40 points a game in the spirit of "exciting games" instead. Or did you miss the yellow font lol

It must be nice to know that we don't have to score every time to win the game. Bama's defense played flawless, allowing the offense plenty of time to sputter, hiccup, and then finally find itself in the last minute of the third quarter. Auburn would've already been down three touchdowns.

For me, having a good defense means that as a fan you feel like the only way a team will score is if they have a big play or your offense turns the ball over deep in its own territory. No one is able to drive the ball down thef field.

The defense has yet to show up in the first 5 games. Can coach Muschamp get his defense to ever show up before the year is out? we'll just have to wait and see. BTW, the offense hasn't shown up either.

JMO but if the offense had showed up, nobody would be talking about the defense...other than perhaps the LSU game. Otherwise, IMO, the pitiful offense is about 80%+ responsible for all the concerns about where this team is right now.

These Defense threads are misguided. CWM deserves time to make it work.

And as far as the offense is concerned, there is no reasonable excuse for this offense being as bad it is. The coaches have totally screwed the pooch; the fault and solutions lie there.

Bingo

We love great defense, but pair it with 40-50 point game offense and you are in the championship. Auburn's woes on offense make no sense. The coaches have made it impossible to execute

With the LSU game included, the defense is giving up 25.4 ppg. in 5 games. Minus the LSU game, the defense gave up 20.75 ppg in 4 games. That is a vast improvement over the last half of last year.

If the offense was producing like it was the last 2 years, 40.2 ppg in '13 and 35.8 ppg in '14, we would be 4-1 for sure and possibly 5-0. At least the defense is going in the right direction, the offense isn't. Just give me the old offense with an average defense and we will go a long way this year.

Absolutely....who would have ever figured that we could hold Dak and MSU to 17 points......and not win the game?

Sure would be nice. We would be down by at least three TD's

Really anyone that had watched out offense since mid season last year. Including Bama. Lots of points yes. Lots of points left on field to equal loss.

YES
