The Auburn senior linebacker, who was named preseason Second Team All-SEC on Friday, was among the 51 linebackers on the Butkus Award watch list on Monday. Williams is expected to resume his role as Auburn's starting middle linebacker, where he was second on the team with 67 tackles including 3.5 for loss last season. Semi-finalists will be named on Oct. 30 with finalists named on Nov. 20 and the winner will be notified on or before Dec. 5. Williams is the seventh Auburn player named to a preseason watch list. Safety Tray Matthews was named to the Bednarik Award watch list, quarterback Jarrett Stidham and running back Kamryn Pettway were named to the Maxwell Award watch list, center Austin Golson was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list, kicker Daniel Carlson was on the Lou Groza Award watch list and offensive tackle Braden Smith was on the Outland Trophy watch list.
