HOOVER, Alabama—A former 4-star prospect and a Top 300 player in the 247Sports Composite out of Hoover High School, Oregon transfer quarterbackRobby Ashford is coming home to play for the Auburn Tigers after receiving an offer on Saturday following a visit to the Plains.

A redshirt in 2020 with the Ducks, Ashford did not see any action this past season. With the move of Coach Mario Cristobal to Miami, Ashford decided to look closer to home to play his college football. That opened the door for Auburn, who was hoping to add a third quarterback in this class following the loss of Bo Nix to Oregon.

Waiting his turn at Hoover, Ashford got some action as a sophomore and showed his potential, but his breakout performance came in his first game as a junior and it came against Nix and Pinson Valley. Teaming up with George Pickens early and often, Ashford threw for 356 yards and four touchdowns in a 52-14 Hoover win. For the season he threw for 2,542 yards and 22 touchdowns with nine interceptions while adding 623 yards rushing and seven touchdowns.

Following a broken foot that sidelined him during his senior season, Ashford came back to play in just six games but still managed to throw for 1,088 yards and 10 touchdowns and rush for 247 more yards. Missing seven games because of the injury, Ashford’s first game back came in the playoffs against Sparkman and he delivered, throwing for 210 yards and three touchdowns.

Originally committed to Ole Miss before switching to Oregon, Ashford was also one of the top high school baseball players in the country and took part in the Under Armour All-American baseball game. Last season he played baseball for Oregon, hitting .200 in 20 games as a reserve outfielder.

Ashford becomes the fifth scholarship quarterback on Auburn's roster for the spring, joining T.J. Finley and Dematrius Davis from last year's roster, incoming freshman Holden Geriner, and Texas A&M transfer Zach Calzada.

Guys, it all makes sense now. We sent in Bo Nix as a trojan horse and he recruited three Ducks to Auburn. He still loves us!!!

Let's see if/how this affects Finley and DD.   Should hear something soon if either or both plan to hit the portal.  I think Finley would stick around to compete with Ashford for #2, but who knows.

Nah I think he’s gone after spring. Harsin brought in 3 (counting Geriner) new QB’s. The writings on the wall

We traded our starting QB to Oregon for a starting DB, starting DL, and QB prospect.

Not a bad trade.  Time will tell how it turns out for both sides.

Did we get any future draft picks too? Sounds like the GM made a killer trade.

Have to wait and see who got the best end of that one.
