NCAA Banning Indian Mascots/Nicknames

Thank God. It's time someone finally did something about this. The untold pain and suffering that Native Americans have endured over the years having to see these logos on athletic uniforms is just too horrible to imagine. To think that whenever they pick up a paper or turn on a TV and see names like, Braves, Seminoles, Fighting Sioux, Indians......I just....I can't imagine.....wait.....I'm sorry.

Look, I just can't go on with this right now. I'll post again later.

Indians like having their ancestors remembered in this way. It's a sign of respect and they know this. This is just weirdo commie PC crap.

BTW, As someone with a BIA number and recipient of a reperations check, I am upset that the NCAA would do something like this.

I don't know how the American Indian really feels about this. All I have ever heard is the voice of a few liberals with their own agendas.

If this is to be enforced it will have to apply to the Fighting Irish. THAT name and logo is much more degrading to Americans of Irish Heritage than almost any of the American Indian symbolism.

Actually, we do know what Indians think of it because about 3 years ago, Sports Illustrated did an article on this and hired a polling firm to survey Native Americans on the subject.

"Asked if high school and college teams should stop using Indian nicknames, 81 percent of Native American respondents said no. As for pro sports, 83 percent of Native American respondents said teams should not stop using Indian nicknames, mascots, characters, and symbols.

"The poll also found that 75 percent of Native Americans don't think the use of these team names and mascots "contributes to discrimination." Opinion is divided about the tomahawk chop displayed at Atlanta Braves games: 48 percent "don't care" about it; 51 percent do care, but more than half of them "like it. The name "Redskins" isn't especially controversial either; 69 percent of Native Americans don't object to it. As a general rule, Indians on reservations were more sensitive about team names and mascots, but not to the point where a majority of them ever sided with the activists on these questions."

But never come between some pointy-headed nerd up in PC la-la land and his preconceived notions of justice and equality.

Political correctness has NO place in America, much less College Football.

I've posted this before, but I think that if using Native American nicknames is Politically Incorrect, then I sure think that the Ole Miss REBELS and other such propaganda of the OLD SOUTH is out of this world crazy. Point is, this could never end...I mean, PETA could get their mits on the GAMECOCKS etc, leave these teams alone and go find something really worth investing time in..say world hunger, aids, or autism.

Several years ago, the road was re-paved in front of my house. It was a scorcher of a day with temps in the upper 90s. I walked out to the mailbox and stepped on to the freshly paved street. To my horror, the tar was still wet and got on my foot. It took days to get the tar off and it especially stuck to my heel. Scrub as I might, the sticky tar refused to release it's ugly grip on my heel. I couldn't go barefoot for several days and I missed a great pool party and a trip to the beach because I was just too darned embarrassed to go out in public like that.

Nowadays, I'm coping well with the memories and the trauma of that dark time in my life. I have good days and bad but the one thing that sets me back and almost causes a complete relapse is watching a North Carolina football game or reading any post from Tarheeltiger.

You insensitive b@%$%#@* :big:

Guest Tigrinum Major

In a related story, the Gulf of Mexico requested that the Tulane Green Wave and the Alabama Crimson Tide cease the use of a body of water as their mascot. Not because the Gulf was offended, but because, "both teams' perfromance the past few years has not been in keeping with the awesome might of the world's oceans."

The Gulf went on to say that it would direct the next hurricane into New Orleans if its demand was not met. When asked about Tuscaloosa, the Gulf replied that any hurricane damage would only improve the campus.

(For any Bama folks that get offended and start spouting off all the campus improvements under Mal Moore - IT'S A FREAKIN' JOKE!)

Liberalism is a mental disorder!

These are the same people who are more concerned with the well being of Islamic terrorists at Club Gitmo than they are about U.S marines. Let's not offend anyone.

These are the same people, like Bill Clinton, who still apologize to blacks for 300 years of slavery. Let's not offend anyone.

These are the same people who are more concerned with the spotted owl survival than 30,000 jobs in the state of Washington. Let's not offend anyone.

Did any of you hear about that Texas investigator in Aruba searching for Natalee Holloway who got in trouble with the animal rights movement in Aruba because he killed a few turtle eggs looking for Miss. Holloway? These are the same people who are more concerned over a cracked eggshell than a missing girl. Let's not offend anyone.

This is the same organization that wants to take millions of dollars generated by college football or basketball, and give it to Title IX sports. All the while, the athletes who do generate that money, don't see any of it with the exception of a scholarship which by the way is not fair market value compared to the money generated. Furthermore, this bureaucracy won't even let the players get jobs during the off season.

Maybe the National Communist Athletic Association doesn't fit all these descriptions but their liberal philosophy on not offending anyone, wealth redistribution, and "feelings" still applies here.

If a Native American tribe gets offended by a university having an Indian as their mascot, then that's their own damn problem. Weren't the native indians great warriors as well as great athletes? Doesn't having an indian mascot suggest heroism and the fierce competitiveness that you want your athletes to immulate on the field of play? Why get offended when a university is honoring the spirit of competition that the natives displayed many years ago? I just don't get it.

I hope that FSU makes it to the national championship game next year and Chief Osceolo implants his sphere on midfield before the opening kickoff and then extends his middle finger towards Myles Brand.

Myles Brand and his cronies are the closest thing to a dictatorship that we have in college athletics. I'm just glad that Brand doesn't run the federal government. It would be Mao's China and the five year plans all over again.

I need a drink.

Good grief will the PC crap never end? Since when did everybody become so touchy about stuff and everbody now has to walk on egg shells and watch what they say in front of other so not to run the risk of offending anybody. I find it offensive when people are so PC that they act like jackasses wait that is offensive let me rephrase that, "people who act like pack animals".

Fox 6 news in Birmingham just reported that FSU will sue the NCAA calling the decision "insulting."

I will post a link when I get one...

Bleah...saw in one of the stories that there were at least 18 schools affected.

If Notre Dame isn't one of the 18, then there's a huge problem with the NCAA's "logic" on this...and although I'm no fan of FSU, I wish them luck with their suit.
