Ranking Auburn Football's Flips in the 2024 Recruiting Class

Lance Dawe
3–4 minutes

Here's a ranking of all four flipped commitments in Auburn's 2024 recruiting class.

Hugh Freeze has done an amazing job with Auburn's 2024 recruiting class.

The Tigers now have three five-stars committed with the addition of Cam Coleman, who flipped from Texas A&M to Auburn on Thursday afternoon.

Freeze has flipped four prospects away from their original school of choice, all from teams within the SEC. It's been an extremely impressive run that may not end with Coleman's flip.

Here's a ranking of all four flips in Auburn's 2024 recruiting class.

WR Cam Coleman - Texas A&M

Ranked by 247Sports as the No. 7 player in the country, Coleman’s 6-foot-4 and 190-pound frame combine extremely well with his elusiveness and tremendous catch radius. In short, Coleman has shown the physical skills and football IQ to one day be a college football star.

This was a dramatic flip that took months of work following his commitment to Texas A&M.

LB Demarcus Riddick - Georgia

This kid is a monster on the field.

Riddick's talent as a five-star prospect is evident, and he had a stat line in his junior year to prove it. The rising senior totaled 109 tackles, 19 tackles for loss, seven sacks, three interceptions, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble. He can play in the box as a middle linebacker, on the line as an edge, and has enough versatility to be productive in guarding wide receivers and tight ends.

Flipping any player away from Georgia - especially a high-profile linebacker like Riddick - goes a long way for the Tigers' future recruiting success in the Bulldogs' state.

Auburn needs more momentum there, and they started it with Riddick.

WR Perry Thompson - Alabama

Thompson flipped from Alabama back in July and gave Auburn their first five-star commit since the 2019 recruiting class. The No. 32 overall prospect is a big, physical receiver with a large catch radius. Just how Freeze likes his receivers.

Auburn desperately needs some height and aggression on the outside, and Thompson provides that. A flip from the Tigers' archrival was icing on the cake.

As much as Hugh Freeze and Auburn need to start winning more in Georgia, they desperately need to start making moves in Alabama.

EDGE Jamonta Waller - Florida

A 6-foot-2, 225-pound EDGE from Picayune Memorial High School in Picayune, Mississippi. Walker is the No. 5 EDGE and the No. 29 prospect overall in the 2024 class according to the 247Sports recruiting rankings.

During his junior season, Walker finished with 106 tackles, 24 TFL, 11.5 sacks, one INT, one forced fumble, and two fumble recoveries.

A statistical beast that flipped from a strong SEC school.

Auburn Briefing: How good have Auburn WR commits been this season?

Daniel Locke
~2 minutes

Auburn's 2024 recruiting class is loaded with talented wide receivers. What have those receivers been able to accomplish this season?

Auburn's wide receiver group in the 2024 recruiting class is shaping up the be one of the best in the history of the program.

The group includes two 5-stars in Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson as well as two 4-stars in Bryce Cain and Malcolm Simmons.

One thing each of these players has in common is that they all had productive seasons this year.

If these guys can bring this level of production with them to Auburn, the offense will be in good shape for years to come.

Auburn trending for elite 2025 in-state linebacker

JD McCarthy
~2 minutes

The Auburn Tigers are no longer taking a back seat in recruiting under Hugh Freeze and the biggest indicator is their ability to recruit elite in-state talent.

They still have to sign, but Auburn currently has commitments from three of the top five players in the 2024 recruiting cycle from Alabama, including five-star wide receivers Cam Coleman and Perry Thompson.

The Tigers are also making hay in the 2025 cycle with three of their five blue-chip commits being from the Yellow Hammer state and they are now the favorites to land another. On Saturday, Auburn Undercover’s Christian Clemente cast a crystal ball for four-star linebacker Eric Winters to commit to Auburn.

Winters is from Enterprise, Alabama, and has visited Auburn numerous times this season, including for the Iron Bowl.

He is the No. 110 overall player and No. 14 linebacker in the 247Sports composite ranking. He is also the No. 10 player from Alabama.

Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class already has commitments from four-star defenders Malik Autry (defensive line), Kendarius Riddick (safety), Jakaleb Faulk (edge), Jourdin Crawford (defensive line) and Kalen Edwards (defensive tackle).

Taylor Jones
2–3 minutes

One of Auburn’s most experienced offensive players has announced that he will return to the program for the 2024 season.

luke deal, a former three-star tight end from the 2019 recruiting cycle, revealed Thursday that he will return to Auburn next season for his sixth season of eligibility.

Deal spoke with Jason Caldwell of Auburn Undercover shortly after announcing his decision. He tells Caldwell that he is strong enough to play for another season and is excited to see the progress that the team is expected to make. He also wants to take care of some “unfinished business” before he departs from the program.

“There’s a couple of games, the Georgia game and Alabama game, but especially the Bama game. That will stick in my mind for 364 days,” Deal said in an interview with Auburn Undercover. “That’s something I can’t quite let go yet. My wife and I are here and we love it here. I’m blessed with another year of eligibility. I’m ready to lead this team next year. We’re going to have some serious dudes and we’re going to win some serious ballgames next year.”

His return makes him one of Auburn’s most experienced players. Since arriving in 2019, he has been involved in 1,302 snaps according to Pro Football Focus. He has also participated in 52 games with 16 starts over the last five seasons.

He was a part of Auburn’s 2019 class that was ranked No. 13 according to 247Sports. Zion Puckett, Ja'Varrius Johnson, Jaylin Simpson, Colby Wooden, tyler fromm, and Nehemiah Pritchett join Deal as members of the class who are still on Auburn’s roster. The class was headlined by linebackers Owen Pappoe and Derick Hall, as well as former Auburn quarterback Bo Nix.
