Stanford returns the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown.

23-21 ND - 4th

Oregon's only loss was to a USC team they led late in the first half. Justify a 9-2 Auburn team, with a loss, albeit early at home to GT, over a 10-1 Oregon squad.

Doesn't need its own thread, but NV just beat Fresno State. Intead of taking a knee with less than a minute, NV ran it from about 30 yards out, broke free and then the RB dropped to a knee on the one. I guess he figured he didn't want to risk Fresno getting back with 36 seconds, even two scores up. Interesting finish.

Oregon played 2 ranked teams, lost to USC 45-13 and beat currently #16 Fresno State. AU played 4 ranked teams, has 2 wins over Top 15 teams, and took the #3 team into OT. Auburn and Oregon are close in offensive scoring, but Oregon is 45th in scoring defense. So, I don't think Oregon, even with one loss, shows up as a much stronger team than Auburn for a BCS bowl game...

If this were any other named team; with 2 losses and struggling with a 5-5 Stanford team at the end of the year, they would be no where near a BCS Bowl...

Reality: ND barely beats losing team in the last minute.

Media Spin: ND shows great character in coming from behind on the road against an inspired Stanford team playing the last game in their storied stadium.

Gotta love the media... teams like ND and USC get that treament while any SEC team would get the following from the media:

It goes to show how they aren't as good as <insert non-SEC top ranked team here> when they can't easily take care of <insert any non-ranked team or low ranked team here>.

Just remember when (if?) we aren't invited to the Fiesta Bowl, it's because ND, OSU, and Oregon all had a Rose Bowl team on their schedules and we didn't. As if plowing through the SEC save for one game isn't good enough. We also don't get our own precious little top 12/9-win clause. Isn't it about time ND joined a conference like a normal college team? :puke:
