Taking the average ranking of each team within the SEC, here is their overall average in the following special teams categories.

Kickoff Returns (1999-2005):

Kentucky........... 4.29

Alabama............ 5.43

Ole Miss............ 5.71

Tennessee......... 5.71

Miss State......... 5.86

Arkansas........... 6.00

Auburn.............. 6.00

LSU.................. 6.14

Vanderbilt.......... 7.00

S. Carolina......... 8.43

Florida............... 8.57

Georgia.............. 8.86

Auburn finished tied with Arkansas for sixth place over the past seven seasons. In 1999, we were 6th in kick return average. We were 5th in 2001, 7th in 2001, 12th in 2002, 8th in 2003, 2nd in 2004 and 2nd in 2005 for an averaging ranking of 6.00.

I think that re-enforces what we have been thinking over the past few years. We are pretty good at most aspects of special teams except field goals. There is no way we should be next to last in this category.

FGs for sure need to improve, but we ahve been fantastic in Punting. This has helped us in several games keeping the opponent pinned back.

My only complaint with punting is that Bliss chose the Bama game to flub his last punt. 22 yards.

That was some good help on the "Hail Mary" pass and subsequent TD. Another 20-25 yards and I doubt they score.

I know that's being picky, but when it comes to uat, I'm very greedy.
