DKW 86 7,426
http://www.beaufortgazette.com/state_news/...p-5217437c.html South Carolina athlete tested positive for cocaine Published Fri, Jun 30, 2006 By PETE IACOBELLI, COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina had one athlete test positive for cocaine, and had four positive tests for marijuana during the first six months of 2006. The school released a brief summary of drug tests for the first half of the year Friday. Along with the other positive tests, the department said one athlete came up positive for using prescription drugs without a prescription. The department said it administered 371 tests for drugs. It also gave 72 tests for alcohol and 91 tests for anabolic steroids, although it reported no positives from those groups. South Carolina's athletic department adopted a new wellness policy last summer that increased the number of positive tests necessary for dismissal from school to four. Previously, the school operated on a "two strikes and out" policy. Positive drug tests bring mandatory testing for a year. If an athlete tests positive a second time, it means mandatory testing for 18 months and missing a quarter of that team's competitions. A third positive triggers testing for the rest of the athlete's South Carolina career and a yearlong suspension. Only on the fourth positive would an athlete be dismissed from intercollegiate athletics, according to the policy. In addition, the athletic department released 10 violations of NCAA rules it deemed secondary - none which directly involved the football program. South Carolina's football team is currently serving three years of probation for several violations, both major and minor, of NCAA rules that occurred during the tenure of former coach Lou Holtz. The school did not release the names of the athletes who failed drugs tests or the names of the people involved in the rules violations.
WarTim 3,456
Just curious. I wonder what USC's policy is on players pleading guilty to possesion of a stolen handgun and illegal drugs?
sogaaufan 27
Doesn't that seem A LITTLE lax that someone be given FOUR strikes before they are sent home?
quietfan 233
To be fair, the title of this thread is a little misleading. The article says five tested positive, not five were arrested. No legal charges appear involved. It does seem a little weird that the school would be lowering its standards, from "two strikes" to "four strikes", given the troubles USC has seen over the last few years. But may Spurrier feared he couldn't field a full team of eleven players from Holtz's leftovers if he didn't relax things a bit!
freebody 0
Seems that someone misunderstood "Let's go Cocks" for "Let's smoke rocks". What do you expect? It seems the news is always talking about those drug cartels in Columbia.

It sounds like they've included alcohol and mary jane to the list. So if you were tested at any time during school, would they find alcohol in you? That would be 4 positives for me right there.
