Terror analyst says Iran, Syria may be inciting Turkey-Kurd clashes

Jim Brown OneNewsNow.comOctober 25, 2007

A leading terrorism analyst says Iran and Syria may be "manipulating Turkey on Iraq."

Tensions continue to escalate along the Turkish-Iraqi border after Kurdish terrorists killed a dozen Turkish soldiers and claimed to have captured eight. The Turkish Parliament has already authorized a cross-border incursion to root out rebels with the PKK, also known as the Kurdish Worker's Party. Meantime, the U.S. and Iraqi governments are seeking a diplomatic solution to the violence.

Dr. Walid Phares, a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies, says Syrian and Iranian intelligence services may have infiltrated the PKK. He says one theory is that Damascus and Tehran pushed the PKK to conduct operations inside Turkey "knowing all to well that the Turkish army will conduct operations inside Kurdistan."

"Kurdistan of Iraq, which is the most secure, the most stable -- and that way they will be coming back at the U.S. role in Iraq. That is the ultimate PKK objective," he argues.

Phares says Iran and Syria may be calculating that the Turks will move into northern Iraq and not only clash with the PKK, but clash with local Kurdish forces, who are U.S. allies. He says that that the ultimate goal of Damascus and Tehran is to create more instability in Iraq.

But the leftist dems in the US have been up in arms for weeks/months in a preemptive effort to stop the US from attacking the Iranian nuclear facilities.

For those who may have forgotten or never known, let me remind you that Iranian clerics have already issued a fatwa approving the use of nuclear weapons against the enemies of Islam.
