How do you spin it

Saturday's Alabama loss was one of the worst in the program's history. That's established. With a few exceptions, it was understood that the spin machine would be in full force by Sunday afternoon.

What's your favorite spin? Here's mine:

"This team just hasn't recovered yet from watching the SEC West Championship slip right through its fingers. The best team won't be in Atlanta."

my favorite that i heard tonight was,"i guess it is part of the process, when he was with lsu he lost to uab, then a few years later he won the national championship?" :roflol: this was stated directly to myself and a fellow auburn fan, our jaws hit the floor. i have decided they are all idiots. also for a bitter twist, texas a&m and embattled coach fran beat this ulm team 54-14, spin it bammers, spin it.

now for the war, let us focus and face the task at hand, we need to be jacked up sky high for this game saturday, come out like we did the year cadillac went 80 yds to the house on the first play from scrimmage, with two escorts all the way. not only did he outrun everyone on the field, but he and two of our guys outran everyone on the field, one of my all-time favorite iron bowl plays.

GET FIRED UP! LETS GO! LETS GET SIX! WAR EAGLE!!!!

I think I might have found a contender:

I know this is assanine, but does anyone else think that maybe we lost this weekend to ULM on purpose? Maybe not the team lost on purpose, but maybe Saban wanted them to lose. Maybe he didn't prepare them like he should have, just to prove a point. Maybe he did this to fire them up, let them be embarassed by a "lesser" team so they would band together and work even harder this week to prepare for the barn.

The only reason I say this is because everywhere he's coached, he has gotten his team embarrassed at least once in the first years. Then, the following years, they become good teams. I realize that they also get better talent in those years, but I could see this as a good fire starter, don't let them beat you like you lost last week.

As crazy as it does sound I have entertained similar thoughts. I seriously doubt that there is any merit to the thought but that did not stop me from pondering it. Saban's proclivity in dropping one game he should not each year cannot be entirely dismissed.
It could be a tough love tactic - go ahead, play and think like you don't need to be a team, see what happens, sort of thing.

Of course, here's another way of looking at it -- blame it on the "inferior" teams

Generally speaking, when teams play obviously inferior opponents they win big without breaking a sweat. Not the Crimson Tide, however. Far from blowouts, Alabama consistently plays inferior opponents and comes out with the all the enthusiasm and excitement of a yard sale on their way to either outright losses or wins that go right down to the wire that come as the result of sloppy play.

and another -- the worn out "blame Shula"

since the LSU game

many Bama players have "quit". Face it, we only have 2 oe 3 real stars because Shula was an awful recruiter. Coach Bryant couldnt motivate these yahoos. Saban will recruit his own players and things will look much better. Next year we will start a few freshmen and the following year we will contend. Saban will need 3 years to show exactly how good he really is. This year was simply a year to show exactly how bad Shula really was. RollTide

we lost the game and we will lose next week as designed by the coaching staff so the coaches can go out and recruit without being tide down by some meaningless bowl.the coaches will work to bring in a top 3 recruiting class, maybe the #1 class. By the way, bama is in the bible- Ezekiel 20:29 keep the faith and we will win a national championship in 4 years.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^WOW. Lost it on purpose so the bowl game isn't a distraction. I mean I realized there were some dilusional fans out there but c'mon.

Heard this about 30 minutes ago...

"Saban's not really coaching the starters on this team. He's letting them get what they deserve and preparing the younger guys to be the SEC contenders next year. The only problem we have for next season is John Parker Wilson, but Julio Jones is going to make him look like a star."

:eek2: @ some of these excuses. Truly insane, even by bammer standards.

I heard them discussing the DJ Hall playing the second half thing on the radio this morning. They were talking about how when Saban was asked if it was supposed to be a half game suspension or full game suspension, his response was "It was what it was," and their only dissent was "Why didn't he just say it was a half game? Cause it was. He was dressed out, so that means he HAD to have only been suspended for a half game."

Uh...It was Senior Day. Was he going to go out there on the 50 yard line and take a picture with his family & Saban wearing a Got 12 t-shirt?

These are funny, but I am having a hard time believing they are real. They may be Auburn fans posing as bammers. Kind of like when I used to post on the "keepmikeshula.com" site.

If they are indeed authentic, I am speechless.

On the radio this morning I heard a notorious Bammer caller say "This loss hurts, but the bright side is we only lost because of Coach Sabans tough discipline. If he had not suspended those five players we would have won the last two and maybe the last three games, La Monroe, Miss. St & LSU!"

Another said "The sooner Coach Saban gets all the dead wood from the Shula era gone the sooner we will back to our rightful place at the top of the SEC & in the national championship picture year in and year out!"

While they are blaming Mike Shula, it would be too much to consider,,,,,,,

Recruiting rankings are the judge and jury of a team's talent?

Sometimes you guys sound just like the ignorant Alabama fans, only from the opposite angle.

Aren't you the one who keeps boasting about a top 3 recruiting class?

True.

But these guys are different. Call me a homer...

If you go back and look at the vids, the previous signees don't look overly impressive. We haven't signed a Burton Scott or Julio Jones in a looooooong time.

You obviously don't understand the process.

Saban is working on his resume so maybe one day he can bus tables at Shula's Steakhouse? Is that how the process works? NFL to UA to Shula's.

This is funny. Not all that long ago, we had you uaters come in here saying how shula was finding recruits before anybody else could find them, and was recruting "lights out". Now, because Saban is there and you are 6-5, its because you don't have any star players. I wish you would put out a memo each week so we'll know what uaters are thinking each week. All you Uaters are gonna strip your gears going into reverse like that so quickly. Can you please make up your mind and stick to it. I know you have the patent on excuses and have them written in some book for each and every situation, but this is a little old, don't you think.

So, was shula a great recruiter and saban just sucks as a coach (see uat's victory over ULM last year)

A few weeks ago, Saban lead his team with victories over Arkansas and Tennessee, but the players lost to ULM. Ok...got it...

Oh, they'll answer that with a resounding No today. The problem is that that was not their answer a year and a half ago.

It will change when Saban leaves for greener pastures some time in the next year to three years.

My prediction from day 1 he signed was that if Saban does not beat Auburn this year or next year, he will be gone by year 3.

We all know that recruiting isn't an exact science but it's right most of the time....the point is that the Bama posters are blaming recruiting...and pointing to this years recruiting class. So which is it...it's the same recruiting services....and you can't say that we've benefitted and gotten all the talent...the rankings are alot closer than anyone wants to admit..I posted this on another thread the other day

AU 2007-#7 2006-#10 2005-#13 2004-#21

AL 2007-#10 2006-#11 2005-#18 2004#15

If there is such a thing as an average in recruiting. We averaged out as #12 through 4yrs and AL averaged out at #13....so there isn't any excuses when it comes to recruiting. Period
