TonyBarbee6UTEP.JPGTony Barbee: On the scheduleTony Barbee, come on down. You're the next contestant in Auburn's basketball coaching search.

Barbee, the Texas-El Paso coach who was in the NCAA Tournament last week, is down to be interviewed by the Tigers in their search to find Jeff Lebo's replacement, people familiar with the search have told The Birmingham News.

Barbee has been at UTEP for four seasons. His career includes time with Kentucky coach John Calipari. Barbee was an assistant coach for Calipari at Memphis. He played for Calipari at UMass.

Barbee won 14 games in his first season with UTEP. Then he won 19, then 23 and went 26-7 this season. The Miners lost to Butler in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last week.

Here is his bio on the Texas-El Paso athletic website.

Others being interviewed include North Texas coach Johnny Jones and Sam Houston State coach Bob Marlin. Auburn is also considering, among others, Los Angeles Lakers special assistant and former Auburn player Chuck Person, and former NBA head coach Sam Mitchell.

At last, a candidate that actually might get the job. While we're workin' Texas, let's get Baylor's Scott Drew involved in this-here interview process.
