MLB Draft

Recommended Posts

I saw where the Oak Mountain Kid went #10 overall. I think AU was sappose to lose a few more recruits.

Anyone know what happened last night?

Both the #10 and #11 picks are Auburn signees. One can get 2.7 million and the next 2.625 million. Unless they are really, really dumb both will take the money and go to school in the winter.

There could be as many as three more taken, although as the rounds get lower the money gets less so it all depends on where they are picked. At any rate, our top-ten ranked recruiting class is now blown out of the water.

Not that this wasn't expected and it doesn't cost anything to sign potentially high draft picks, so why not? It looks good on paper for a few months anyway.

None of us could see this happening any other way! MLB kills College Baseball in many areas of the country, and this is another example of it happening, once again, to us. Either way, it shows we need a very, very good (if not GREAT) man in the dugout to get us to Omaha.

This is the important part. The LSUs and USCe of the world deal with this on a yearly basis too, and they still get it done every year. So, coaching them up when you get them on campus is the important part.

So what I take from this is if we don't lose any more it should still be a strong class just not top ten worthy.

Maybe top 25 worthy. And if you're in the SEC, a top 25 recruiting class isn't much to brag about. That and a couple of bad decisions from the dugout will get you in 10th place, which is where we finished this year.

The MLB draft makes baseball recruiting totally different from any other sport.

What the draft does is rakes off the top level of player, no matter who they signed with. What's left is a very level assortment of talent. Thus, recruiting becomes less important and player development and coaching decisions become more important. This is why we are currently up the creek!
