Auburn Basketball Wins Fifth Straight As It Trounces Alabama A&M, 82-40

AUBURN----Tay Waller scored 14 points and Korvotney Barber added

11 points and eight rebounds as both only played 22 minutes to lead

Auburn to its fifth straight victory in an 82-40 win over Alabama A&M in

Beard-Eaves-Memorial Coliseum Monday.

    Frankie Sullivan had 12 points and six rebounds in 30 minutes,

DeWayne Reed notched 10 points and Quantez Robertson totaled eight

points, six rebounds and six assists. Robertson moved into fifth on

Auburn*s all-time assist list with 467. Johnnie Lett scored a

career-high eight points in 17 minutes.

    Leading 18-12, Auburn (8-4) went on a 10-0 run over a five

minute period to take a 28-12 lead with 9:33 left in the half as Alabama

A&M (2-6) went scoreless for seven minutes.  The Tigers then coasted to

a 46-28 hafltime lead as they made 9-of-15 (.600) shots from 3-point

range.

    *This was the best we shot the ball all season,* said Auburn

head coach Jeff Lebo. *Defensively in the second half, every shot they

had was contested.*

    The Tigers limited the Bulldogs to only 12 second half points as

the Bulldogs made only 3-of-23 (.130) shots from the field and 1-of-9

(.111) from 3-point range. For the game, Alabama A&M shot 22 percent

(11-of-50) from the field and 32 percent (6-of-19) from behind the arc.

    Auburn shot 53 percent (31-of-59) from the field, a season-best

47 percent (9-of-19) from 3-point range and 65 percent (11-of-17) from

the foul line. The Tigers outrebounded the Bulldogs 49-24 and outscored

them in second chance points, 19-3.

    Auburn has only allowed 51.0 points per game in its last five

games and has won a pair of games this season  by 42 points or more.

    Trant Simpson was the only Bulldog to score in double figures as

he led Alabama A&M with 15 points.

    Auburn returns to action as it plays host to Southeastern

Louisiana Wednesday at 5 pm Central.

What a great all around performance last night.  I haven't seen us double up somebody on rebounds in a long time.  That same team played Bama close all the way in Tuscalooser earlier this year and only lost by 8.  I really hope our guys can build on this and win some games in the SEC.  War Eagle!
