Auburn track and field sophomore Marcus Rowland has been

named the Southeastern Conference’s Male Co-Runner of the Week, the

league office announced Tuesday.

Rowland posted the fastest time in the world this year (wind-legal or

wind-assisted) in the 100 meters Saturday at the Tiger Track Classic at

Hutsell-Rosen Track, racing to a time of 10.03 seconds. His time, which

is .07 seconds faster than the world’s next best time this year, blew

away the competition at the Tiger Track Classic, as the runner-up

finished in 10.36 seconds.

Rowland also anchored Auburn’s 4x100-meter relay team to victory in

39.36 seconds on Saturday. The team’s time ranks fifth in the NCAA

this year and is eighth best in Auburn history.

The award marked the first SEC Runner of the Week award during

Rowland’s career. He was twice named the SEC Male Freshman of the

Week in 2009.

The Tigers will return to competition this Saturday at the Sun Angel

Classic in Tempe, Ariz.
