No. 18 Auburn Plays Host To Tennessee Trying To Clinch A Berth In The SEC Tour

Recommended Posts

The No. 18 Auburn baseball team holds a magic number

of two to clinch its first Southeastern Conference Tournament berth

since the 2003 season when it plays host to Tennessee this weekend at

Plainsman Park. Any combination of wins by Auburn and losses by Alabama

that adds up to two would clinch Auburn’s spot in the tournament,

which will be played May 26-30 at Regions Park in Hoover.

Auburn (33-16, 15-9 SEC) and Tennessee (27-21, 11-13 SEC) come in as

two of the hotter clubs in the conference as Auburn has won five

straight league games to climb within one game of first place in the SEC

West, while Tennessee has also won five straight in league play and six

overall. Both teams have also won three straight conference series, with

each claiming series sweeps last weekend, Auburn’s at home over

Mississippi State and Tennessee’s at Georgia.

The pitching matchups for the weekend are So. LHP Cory Luckie (6-2,

6.10) vs. Sr. RHP Stephen McCray (5-3, 2.78) on Friday, TBA vs. So. LHP

Steven Gruver (4-3, 5.51) on Saturday and Jr. LHP Grant Dayton (6-2,

5.00) vs. TBA on Sunday.

Game times for the series, which is Auburn’s final home SEC weekend,

are 6:30pm CT on Friday, 3pm on Saturday and 1pm on Sunday.

Fans attending Friday night’s game will enjoy post-game fireworks and

the first 500 through the gates will receive a poster puzzle from

Nabisco and Winn-Dixie. On Sunday the first 500 fans will receive team

trading card set No. 5 from Longhorn Steakhouse and all kids

12-and-under can run the bases after the game presented by ALLKids. It

is also family day where fans can get four tickets, four hot dogs and

four drinks for $30 with advance purchase.

How long has it been since we last played in the SEC Tournament? hasn't it been about 8 or 9 years.
