Stats Review

Recommended Posts

We're about a third of the way through the season, games-wise, although it seems to me we just started.  With no mid-week game to occupy us, seems a good time for a stats review.

I had some trouble managing that format, so had to reply to comment.

Draper continues to be the straw that stirs.  Hitting .479, obp of .621, 20 stolen bases, she's a one-woman offense.  In fact, she's scored the same number of runs our opponents have.  Taylon has certainly lived up to her press clippings at the plate, hitting .442.  We were really handicapped against Long Beach, with both her and Rivera gone.  Courtney Shea has been a pleasant surprise to me, hitting .386.  Notice she has no homers, although she's banged the wall a couple of times.  Makes me wonder if she's changed her swing a bit.  Perry and Crocker have come through as well.  Overall, I perceive hitting as better than last year at this same time.

We appreciate you for posting this.  I have to agree that team speed has been a major factor this year.  Aggressive base running has made a big difference in several games.  A walk and stolen base equals a double.  This team is really fun to follow.

Thanks for the stats on this.  Good to see how we are doing. Our fielding %age is a bit lower than we have seen in the past and those errors have cost us some runs, definitely cost us the game against Wisconsin.  We will need to tighten that up a bit.  I do like using our speed a bit more and seeing some more aggressive base running, although I believe it has cost us some outs, but not run ourselves out of the ballgame.  Don't see the power numbers like we have in the past, but I also thik they are spread out among more players than in the past.  Overall, a fun team to watch and will be interesting to see how SEC play goes.

Hard to believe.....and it's still February.    Thanks for the stats.....but I'm guessing that the remaining 2/3rds of the season will look quite a bit different.  SEC West is tough as usual.....ladies will have their hands full against the other power teams in the conference and they sure can't make it easy for them with fielding errors.

Not a good trend there, although we still have room to lower that number considerably.  Another one I'm acutely aware of is the power decline. We hit 99 homers in 2015, or 1.48 per game. This year so far, we are at 0.76 per game. B ut there is a good trend on the other side. In 2015, opponents hit 0.91 homers/game. this year to date, they're at 0.35.

The power drop is going to be hard to overcome.   Those stats were generated off the bats of Carisone  Cooper and Rhodes....not many of those kind of hitters out there

I believe the 2018 number was calculated using the opponents’ error numbers.  Auburn has had 15 errors through 19 games or .789 per game. Better than the last 2 years. And yes, I’m new to the site but I am a big AU softball fan.

You are correct - my bad.

According to an article in the Mobile Register,  we should have Rivera and Snow back in the lineup this weekend.  Crocker still having some issues with her hand, but might play.

That is good news on Rivera and Snow.  Hope Crocker is back soon as well.
