What the format will be for A day game

AUBURN, Alabama–A week out from Auburn’s annual spring football game, Coach Bryan Harsin said he isn’t sure what the format will be for the annual A-Day intrasquad contest next Saturday. However, he did say that he liked what he saw from the Tigers at Saturday’s practice that included a light scrimmage.

Asked if a decision has been made on what fans will see for A-Day, Harsin said, “Not yet. I don’t know if we are going to have a chance to divide the squads.

“It could be O and D,” he said. “You always like to do that. It is fun to have the squad when you have 100 and some guys or at least the 85, but we will see.

“What I really want to get done on A-Day is make sure we finish up because that is our last practice,” Harsin said. “We don’t have the extra practice after A-Day so (I want to see) that we go out there and accomplish what we need to in that scrimmage and we get the live work.

“Also, we want to get in situations for things that we need to work on,” he pointed out.

“I always felt like when I was a coordinator, I know the spring games and there was a lot around them and it becomes just about the game, but you are still trying to work on things,” the head coach said.

“You are still trying to get those last final touches because this is the last time we are going to do real football until August. I know our coaches, they take that very seriously.

“The coordinators and the assistant coaches want to see certain things they can get on tape one more time before we going into evals next. Also, there are some positions where it might be close where you want to get more information as a coach.

“You are going to be (evaluating) next week with your players and you have got to see some things,” Harsin said. “Maybe there is something that separates and there are a few things you can give them that come out of that game.”

Many of the 85 plays in the scrimmage were not full contact on Saturday. Practicing back-to-back days with high school coaches on campus Thursday night, Friday and Saturday for a coaching clinic and to watch practices, Harsin noted that one thing that stood out of “a lot of consistency from the better players” and he said, “It was good to see that.”

The coach singled out the tight ends for playing well as a group and said he likes what he is seeing from Landen King, who is playing wide receiver and tight end. A newcomer at wide receiver, Jay Fair, caught a touchdown pass in the scrimmage and won praise from Harsin for his play this spring as did receivers Malcolm Johnson and Shedrick Jackson.

The Tigers have 11 of their allotted 15 practice days completed. The plan is to practice on Monday, Wednesday and Friday prior to Saturday’s A-Day contest.

I like the offense/defense idea. Let the different units go. Good on good, 2nd v 2nd, 1st v second. Give everyone different reps against different qualities

I haven't been to A-day in several years but going to this years.  Do we roll Toomer's Corner after the game??  Just wondering.
