Pawlowski Era Of Auburn Baseball Begins On Friday

Recommended Posts

The first game in the John Pawlowski era of Auburn

baseball begins at 3pm CT on Friday afternoon when Auburn plays host to

Elon at Plainsman Park. Sophomore left-hander Grant Dayton gets the

starting nod for Auburn in the season-opener while Elon will counter

with a lefty of its own in Jimmy Reyes.

Pawlowski is in his first season at Auburn after spending nine very

successful years as the head coach at the College of Charleston. During

his nine-year stay at the Southern Conference school on the South

Carolina coast, Pawlowski led his team to a pair of league titles, a

league tournament title and three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Over his last five seasons there, his teams averaged 43 wins a year.

Pawlowski inherits a roster that has talent on it. Sophomore infielder

Hunter Morris (.351/11 HR/49 RBI in ’08) has been a preseason All-SEC

selection by no less than four publications while fellow 2008 SEC

All-Freshmen selections outfielder Brian Fletcher (.324/10/42) and

Dayton (7-2/3.89 ERA/79K) also provide a solid nucleus for Pawlowski to

build upon.

Auburn will hand the ball to redshirt freshman righty Jon Luke Jacobs

on Saturday while Elon will oppose him with right-hander Ken Ferrer for

the 3pm contest. Neither team has announced its starter for Sunday’s

1pm game.

Friday’s season-opener is the Business Person Special (2-for-1

admission with a business card) while Sunday is Family Day (four

tickets, four hot dogs and four drinks for $30) and there will be a team

autograph session following the game.
