  1. Like it or not, Jimbo's contract is relevant for a couple of reasons 1) it seems to be being used as a benchmark for Kiffin's reported pay at Auburn and 2) Jimbo was a much more accomplished HC than Kiffin at the time his contract was signed. Awarding Kiffin this type of money without the HC resume of the guy who set the bar makes no sense.
  2. All coaches mentioned in this search have risk, but Kiffin is the most expensive risk we could take. Before anyone chimes in with "market rate" or "it's not your money." Yeah, I'm fully aware. The issue is that if we give Kiffin a huge, long guaranteed contract, you can't easily pivot if things go south (i.e. Jimbo at A&M). There are plenty of other risky coaches out there that command far less. Kiffin's history shows he is fully capable of being merely average. I'm just not sure he's worth the money we seemingly have to pay him and I don't think we can be too upset when he settles in and becomes an 8-5 coach. Paying Kiffin a ton of money won't make him elite. There is much better value for money elsewhere, but I'd support him if he is hired.
  3. Need more intermediate routes. Run, run, deep ball is giving me Gus flashbacks 🤦‍♂️
  4. As was said earlier, every candidate has some downsides. For Lane, USC was a long time ago, but I haven't seen enough of him as a HC since to think he'd be a home run. Not sure of the circumstances, but his second season at FAU was a losing one. He rebounded with a 10 win season then bolted for Ole Miss. His record at Ole Miss has been good, but I'm not sure he's had a signature win there. If we're going to roll the dice, I'd much rather land on Deion than pay Kiffin a 9 figure contract. There are coaches out there that justify that price but Kiffin is not one of them.
  5. It's not my money, but I'd rather roll the dice on Caddy as HC than some of the candidates mentioned. He's got 3 more games to audition. If the team shows improvement and we whiff on an established coach, I'd be happy to have Caddy over some other coordinator or Group of 5 coach.
  6. Not even one game in, Caddy is a better in game coach than Harsin
  7. Nothing against Robby, but I'd like to see Geriner for a bit this game. Season is lost anyway, let's see what the kids got.
  8. That 4th and 1 wasn't a terrible call. It was poorly executed by missing that block. If that block is made by Deal people would say, "great call". Funny how the result of the play impacts the perception of the call itself 🤔
  9. Completely agree and was about to post this point until I saw you made it. Who will recruit better, Kiffin at Auburn or Sanders at Ole Miss? Someone in the SEC is going to make a run at Deion at some point. If this seemingly likely scenario plays out, we're likely looking at a #4 in the SEC recruiting rankings (best case) and we'd be behind Ole Miss. I get that Deion lacks the coaching experience, but Auburn has been lacking in both coaching and recruiting for several years now. Deion at least will solve recruiting with 100% certainty.
  10. ^^This. Also, Ole Miss isn't scheduling a home and home with a ranked opponent in most years and playing UGA every year. He has some head scratching losses and in game decisions. The competition will level up at Auburn and I don't think Kiffin will all of a sudden become a better in game decision maker just because he's on the plains.
  11. This is my problem with Lane. The only place he stuck around long enough to get a read on him was USC and he failed there at a program that has every resource available. I'm not saying people can't change, but why do those that want him give him a free pass on this?
  12. 1. Rhule 2. Sanders 3. Lanning 4a. Grimes 4b. Monken
  13. Might be unpopular, but I can't get onboard with a Kiffin hire. He makes some head scratching in game calls (Auburn game last year as one example) and I don't think his recruiting is elite. On top of that, we'd have to pay a lot to get him and he hasn't sustained anywhere yet (leaves after 2 or 3 seasons). For the money, we're probably better off with other candidates.
  14. I didn't want Freeze to begin with, but even if the buyout isn't too big for Auburn, it's likely more than it was before he signed the contract. If Auburn was talking to Freeze or at least reached out to gauge interest, signing a new contract isn't a move you make if you're flirting with other schools. To me, this means Freeze is off the board and I'm not the least bit upset about it 😂
  15. Auburn up 20-7 at the half UGA wins 35-20 😬
  16. Looking good so far. Do you think someone told Harsin he wasn't being fired? 😂
  17. Some people are aggressive drunks. This could work 😂
  18. I don't think Grimes is a lazy JABA hire, but he is definitely not an outside the box choice. I'm with you on Deion 1a and Rhule 1b.
  19. ^^This. Kiffin was also part of the revolving door at Tennessee and did nothing at USCw despite being the premier school in that state & conference. Freeze has a ton of baggage and only recruited well while cheating. We need to do much better than these two if we are going to succeed long term. Agreed that hiring a coach can be a crap shoot, but Kiffin and Freeze are two guys AU should NEVER roll the dice on.
