Bo Jackson Moment

There are so many in college that I've seen that I can't pick just one... as a matter of fact, I would have to pick from somewhere around 20.

But I've narrowed NFL down to 2.

1. When Bo took it around left end and just kept running into the tunnel.

2.  When Bo and Ronnie Lott went heads up and STUCK Ronnie Lott.  No one has EVER put a lick on Lott. He didn't run him over, but I promise Ronnie Lott knew Bo was there to play.

Now MLB is easy.  When he caught that ball and ran up the wall... one of the sickest things I've ever seen in sports.

I would like to correct this... he did run him over. Just watched it again. Bo is standing, Lott is confused.

I saw him throw a baseball from the center field warning track of PP and it was rising, as, it hit the back stop, half way up......he had no shot at the guy on third, but, he just let it rip.  Amazing,  400' easy............ I was in the same class as Bo, so, I was blessed to see him live in FB, BB and Track.........just the best ever!

I was lucky enough to be a student at Auburn with Bo. My favorite moments were the handful of times I got to sit and talk with him about hunting, fishing and life in general. He is a very bright and personable man.

My favorite in 2010 was when he hugged and then kissed the top of Michael Dyer's head, then lifted up Michael's hand right after Michael had broken Bo's record.  AUsome!

1989.  My wife and I are spending an extended period of time in Houston TX for medical treatments for her.  A classmate of her dad was an executive for the Houston Oilers.  My wife's dad calls him to see if he could get tickets for us to see the Raiders play the Oilers because he knew I was a Bo fan.  The guy calls me with two on the 50 left at Will Call.  Anyway, we get in early to watch warm ups.  I am wearing an Auburn sweatshirt.  I walked down to the end zone where the Raiders were warming up.  It was just me standing there against the rail with nobody in 20 feet of me.  I'm taking some pictures and then all of a sudden, Bo points at me.  He runs over to the wall and reaches up to shake my hand and says War Eagle!!  We chatted for a minute, he waved to my wife.  He didn't have a great game but it didn't matter at all to me.

I was at the game as a senior. I worked for a division of SI years later when Deion was plying for the Braves. He had been on the cover of SI and we presented a framed copy to him. We mentioned Herschel Walker and he went off on how he played against him in college and said he was nothing. I kept my mouth shut but knew that, in fact, they had never played against one another in college. Herschel was gone to the USFL by the time Deion was at FSU. Deion has grown up since his early years and I rather enjoy listening to him now. It was an interesting time. The 2 years that Bo and Herschel faced each other in college were electrifying and I cherish both of those game memories.

Didn't he throw a football in the Super Dome all the way to the speakers and hit one?

Can't remember the year but I remember being at a kicking camp at Auburn and Bo was on campus to rehab his hip.  One night after practice a friend and I were in the training room icing our legs when in walks The Bo Jackson.  He sat beside us and just talked about life and getting an education while he was icing his hip.  The highlight of the night, he walked with us to The Flush and bought us a milkshake.  The whole time everyone at the flush was asking him for his autograph but he politely told them no, he was here to talk to his two biggest fans.  We had is undivided attention for several hours.  I still have the napkin from the flush that he signed for me.  War Eagle.

My friend's uncle was a manager when he did this and he has it on film.  He not only threw it and hit a speaker, he then kicked it and hit a speaker... then threw in end-zone to end-zone. I am being dead serious.

Not a Bo highlight story but my favorite "Bo Moment”.  At the Sugar Bowl against FSU after the 88 season, my ex-wife and I had seats we bought from a "former president of the Sugar Bowl Committee".  The seats were on the 45 but so low we couldn't see over the bench.  About half way through the 1st quarter I looked up and on the 50 yard line, about 10 rows down from the concourse, were about 15 seats on three rows with only two women sitting in the middle of them.

The seats were in our section but higher so at the end of the quarter we went up and sat down.  There were several faculty members that the ex and I knew in the seats around the empty ones so we didn't have any trouble.  We sat on the row behind and just left of the two women.  They were African American, one in her late 20s and one somewhere north of 60.  The younger woman was dressed in a one piece leather jumpsuit that looked like it cost a month’s pay for a poor chump like me.  She was very vocal and called players names and I leaned up to get a better look and saw a Raiders helmet pin with a big diamond in it on both their lapels.

I leaned back and told the ex, "I think that's Bo's wife and Momma".  Bo was down on the sidelines.  She leaned forward and looked and agreed.  I finally got up the nerve to ask and they said yes.  Turns out Bo always bought a block of seats and gave them the two in the middle so they wouldn't be crowded.  I was ready to get up and move because I didn't want Bo mad at me even if he didn't know who I was.  The ladies asked us to stay because they never had anyone else to talk to during the games when he did that. They were glad we came and sat there.  We all had a great time, except of course for the way the game ended.

Well after Deion made the interception and the game ended, Bo started looking up in the stands for his wife and mother.  I could see him looking and I yelled BO, and waved.  You’ll just have to trust me that I can make myself heard almost anywhere.  He finally made eye contact with his wife and waved for them to come down to the field.  I escorted them down against the flow (I was 6’3” 235 myself at the time so I made a hole they could follow).  We got down to the bottom and I was ready to meet THE MAN.  Well, I did for about eight seconds.  His wife said, “This is ____ and he helped us get down here.”  Bo stuck out his hand, said “Thanks” turned to them and said “Let’s go” and they took off toward the tunnel.

SO, thanks to Bo I had great seats for the 89 Sugar Bowl.

I think it was the 96 season. I was working at the stadium on the ground/paint/whatever they needed me to do crew.  I got to stand down on the field during games, and during the GA game that year, it was really cold, so I decided to go in the office underneath the stadium and watch the game on the tv.  I walked in the office door, and some of the other ground crew workers are sitting there, and Bo is just sitting there hanging out.  I sit down in the only open seat, which is right next to Bo.  It starts getting close to kickoff, and somebody is turning the channel on the tv when Bo says "where's the Auburn game at?"  I had been sitting there for about 20 minutes without saying a word, but when Bo asked that question all I could say was "right outside the door."  Bo turned to me with a big grin and says "oh so you wanna be a smarta$$, I ain't whipped no butt since 1984, I'm about to mop the floor with you boy."  I was grinning from ear to ear, as all the other guys were laughing and ragging Bo.
