Rather's N.Y. Ratings in 'Free Fall'

Millions of Americans are voting on Dan Rather – and he's being rejected.

If New York TV ratings are any indication, Dan Rather's audience is fleeing the liberal anchor's evening news program.

After the Rathergate scandal of forged documents – and Rather's reluctance to admit his mistake (he still won't call the documents forged), loyal CBS viewers are turning Dan off.

Last week, Rather's "CBS Evening News" pulled an audience in New York of about 160,000 each night – a steep decline from the previous week's average of 230,000 per night.

And the ratings continue to fall – with Rather pulling just 140,000 viewers last Thurday and 108,000 on Friday.

The New York Post described Rather's New York ratings as being in "free fall."

Also, a USA Today poll out reveals that as many as one quarter of all Americans think Dan Rather should be fired for using forged documents and not admitting the mistake quickly.

Wow! I bet reruns of Senifeld and the Simpsons are getting better ratings.
