Another good one get's away. Heading to Vandy with an electric fastball.....sure would have been nice to see him at AU but can't fault him for the decision....but getting guys like him IMO is the only way we will challenge to top SEC teams.\

I watched him play when Ardmore came to play Priceville. He is an amazing player. Maybe some day soon we can turn the heads for baseball as much as we do for football!

Draft standing for MLB ...see he is #44 in the top 100 draft picks....possible second round pick.....which means he may never see a college campus.

Not a huge surprise...drafted by Diamondbacks and going to take the $$$ instead of the Vandy offer....and who can blame him.

The risk that colleges take when they shoot for the moon with their scholly offers.

It's not really a risk. If the kid goes pro he hasn't even used any part of a scholarship. Every now and then you get a kid such as Tom Slater's Auburn signee Hunter Morris that chooses school first and then you've got something.

Maybe not with Reed but there is a real risk is that some of the kids are not sure...make a commitment ( which schools need to honor) and are still seriously considering to sign with the pros.

The first round guys usually sign with the pros...but not always. But, the rest of the drafted players have the opportunity to negotiate between the schools and the pros and many times don't make their choice until the last moment. Even with so few scholarships to offer, the schools are sometimes sitting by until the last minute to see if their guy signs with a pro team...or reports to school.. Was reading a story about baseball coaches escorting their new scholarship players to class the first day to make sure the kid did not get an offer that caused him to change his mind even after he was on campus.

I think this still applies....that even if the player signs the scholarship papers, as long as he doesn't attend a class, he can still get out of the scholarship and play professional ball with no waiting period..... and the school is left holding the bag. Sure they get to use the scholarship....but are left at the gate trying to find a quality player or two.
