IF, and I emphasize IF, a person closer to the ball than anyone here disagreed with the onsides kick ruling, why did Gus waste his challenge and lose a timeout.

I just figure he either had someone close to it say it hit the player or wanted to take time to let the defense catch their breath for another minute and figured a challenge, if it works is great but if not, same as the time out to get a breather.

The refs don't look for this because it's a simple rule that no coaching staff is oblivious enough to violate. Duke did not look like he had been trained too well either.

Glad it did happen and did not affect the outcome. This will just forewarn the AU coaching staff should we need to use something like this in a future game.
