Upon Further Review - Vanderbilt Game

• 51.9% of Auburn's offensive snaps went for 5-yards or more, and 38.0% of Vanderbilt's offensive snaps netted at least 5-yards.

 

• The Commodores averaged 5.3 yards per play during the first-half and 4.2 yards during the second-half.

 

• During the first-half, 35.9% of Vandy's snaps went for 2-yards or less. It increased to 59.4% during the second-half.

 

• Though Auburn only managed six impact plays against Vanderbilt; the Tigers equaled last season's total of 80 impact plays, doing so in four fewer games.

 

• Through 9 games, Kamryn Pettway has averaged an impact run play every 10.8 attempts. Kerryon Johnson is averaging one every 25.0 attempts. Auburn will miss Pettway dearly if he is unable to return next week. Pettway currently leads the Auburn offense with 16 impact plays followed by Tony Stevens with 13.

 

• Vanderbilt gashed Auburn with 109 yards rushing on 20 carries during the first half but allowed only 11 yards on 13 attempts during the second half.

 

• Auburn's defense has cut scoring down by nearly 31 percent during the second halves of their games.

 

• During Auburn's last 12 scoring drives, only five have resulted in a touchdown.

 

• During the last two games, Auburn's front-7 have accounted for 52% of the tackles. During the previous three games, it was 64%.

 

• During the first seven games, Auburn's defense forced a "3 & out", 35% of the time. During the past two games, it has dropped to 5%.

 

• Auburn has not allowed a 30-point game during 11 consecutive games, Auburn's longest such streak since 2006.

 

• During the first three games of the season, Auburn ran the ball 74.8% of the time. During the past six games, it has increased to 86.0%. If Kamryn Pettway is not available for the Georgia game, Auburn will need to pass more on first down.

 

• Auburn's 8-game streak of holding their opponent below their rushing average and pass-efficiency average came to a stop against Vanderbilt. The Commodores managed to surpass their pass-efficiency for the season.

 

• From 1992-2016, Auburn is now 150-17-1 during games they have more rushing yards and rush attempts than their opponent.

 

• Kamryn Pettway's fourth consecutive game of 150-yards established a new school record.

 

• Kerryon Johnson tied Rudy Ford for the same number of kick-returns on the season. Ford's 15.9 yards per kick-return would be the lowest return average by Auburn's leading kick-returner over the past 50 seasons. Marcus Davis' average of 7.3 yards per punt-return is the 42nd best average by Auburn's leading punt-returner over the past 50 years. The return game has been horrible this season.

 

• Sean White is the No. 3 rated passer (starter) on 1st down in the SEC. He is currently completing 78% of his first down passes for 9.1 yards per attempt. Auburn needs to take advantage of this against Georgia if Pettway is not available.

 

• John Franklin III has completed 3 of his nine pass attempts beyond 5-yards of the line of scrimmage.

 

• The 2016 Auburn pass offense became only the 9th Auburn offense to have at least seven 140-pass rating games in one season. Only four Auburn teams have produced 8 or more during one season.

 

• Coming into the Vandy game, Auburn ranked No. 62 nationally in sack ratio. Auburn averaged a sack every 14.5 passes defended, which is the FBS national average. Auburn recorded only one sack, defending 38 Vanderbilt pass attempts.

 

• Gus Malzahn's offense is now 64-5 during games with at least 200 yards rushing and a passer rating of at least 130.

Again, the drop count should play into this somewhere.

 I can think of one drop yesterday.

The D has played less than good the last two games.  To beat uga, they must improve greatly.

Teams are making a quick throw stopping our pass rush.   We need to learn how to cover that.

Our DBs can disrupt the WRs for 5 yards past the line of scrimmage. This should be worked on very hard with all DBs and LBs covering receivers. If this is done correctly, we should be able to ruin any quick passes. This is a weapon that needs to be used every passing play.

Also, the DL needs to get their hands up very high to tip the ball and make it up for grabs for a possible Int. This sounds simple, but something that can be worked on to perfection.
