TexasTiger 12,897
If you’ve followed this issue in the UK, this is huge. The Labour view was previously highly dogmatic— no discussion was acceptable. While the UK doesn’t something as almost absolute as our first amendment, they have had multiple legal cases the have protected and established the right to have views that counter the dogma. Labour is still liberal. Still supportive. But the dogmatic approach is being dropped. “Labour’s new stance shows how the left can simultaneously acknowledge the needs of an embattled transgender minority, accept the importance of biological sex to public policy, and look for political and social compromises. Admittedly, huge questions remain about how the party’s proposals will work in practice and whether its Welsh and Scottish branches will fall in line. But Labour has signaled the beginning of a serious democratic conversation, after years of implicitly agreeing with the LGBTQ activists who insisted that no debate was acceptable.” https://archive.is/2023.08.09-084744/https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2023/08/uk-trans-rights-labour-party/674944/
