Inspired me enough to change my signature for a few days:

Shug didn't shrug off '71 Georgia game

Big games were nothing new to Shug Jordan, but his players knew this one was different.

On Nov. 12, 1971, the Tigers boarded their buses for the trip to Athens, Ga. The next day, they would play Georgia in the most important game of their lives. Auburn was 8-0 and ranked No. 6. Georgia was 9-0 and ranked No. 7. Never before had two Southeastern Conference teams matched perfect records so late in a season.

That Georgia was the opponent made it all the more special. Jordan had been an assistant at Georgia when his alma mater called him home in 1951. His staff was sprinkled with former Georgia players. Georgia coach Vince Dooley had played quarterback and later coached for Jordan at Auburn. A year earlier, Georgia had gone to Auburn an underdog and upset the Tigers 31-17, knocking them out of the Sugar Bowl. On the bus ride, players noticed a different demeanor.
