Has anyone ever stayted at The University Inn? I was told by a MSU fan that there were still some rooms available there but he said it wasn't that nice. Has anyone stayed there before? How bad is it?

You're only three hours away from Wedowee when you are in Starkville.

Come to think of it, Starkville is a lot like Wedowee.

Suck it up and make a long day of it.

My advice?

Stay in Tuscaloosa and make the drive over that morning. Tuscaloosa may be bad, but tarkville sucks. There is no redeeming quality about it that I could find.

We drove from Auburn to Starkville in '04, discovered there was absolutely nothing to do that night, and no where to stay, so we drove back to Tuscaloosa and spent the night there and had a good time. Then woke up the next morning and drove back to Starkville for the game.

I need to update that the wife and I moved back to Auburn even though it is not that much farther. We were just looking for somewhere to stay, but a few other people have said the same thing about staying in Tuscaloosa and going to the game from there.

Seriously, there is nothing in Starkville. Tuscaloosa is an hour away and Birmingham is less than two.

Good luck. Scott Field is a great little high school stadium.

Saniflush is right, go to Columbus and spend the night. Or go on down Highway 25 (head south) and visit the Indian casino in Philadelphia.

A little off topic...but when my brother and I went to the Sugar Bowl after the '04 season, the "rest" stops in Mississippi, DIDN'T HAVE RESTROOMS! I'm serious!!! :o

Columbus or West Point might be the best bet for a nicer hotel. Starkville isn't known for nice stuff. LOL

I'm driving up from Hattiesburg for the game. I only have about 3 1/2 hour drive.

I'd say look for a place to stay in Columbus, MS or Tupelo, MS if you are going to stay over night. Tupelo is not that bad of a town (much cleaner than Starkhell and Columbus). I lived and worked in Tupelo for a little over a year. There's a decent night spot (JP's), good places to eat (Harvey's) and a mall.

Of course, I would just drive in and drive out and try not to get lost in between. (Field....cow.....field....cow.....bump in the road.....cow...MSU....cow...field...cow....Mississippi River)

Only time I ahve ever stayed in Starkville was to go see an airshow at Columbus AFB. Blonde Wasabi and I stayed at a Best Western, if memory serves me correctly, and it was your typical BW hotel. Nothing bad. We did not have any bad experiences in Starkville, but like many said, there is not much too it. They have your typical fast food joints and that is about it. Like others said, Columbus is your best bet.

Only the Mississippi state welcome centers have toilets....otherwise you walk off into the woods and become one with nature.
