WinCrimson 61
Obama didn't denounce it UNTIL it was brought up in the media like it was. He had no choice to denounce it... I don't mind his name, I mind his socialist ideals. Life is not fair, nor will it every be. Personally I don't want the Government to end up being responsible for the money that I work so hard for. First comes this health care crap and then what next... rationing out food, because some people can't make the money to eat properly... That is their own damn fault. Life isn't fair. I agree. But shouldn't it be as fair as reasonably possible? Shouldn't we strive to at least live in America that doesn't favor one gender, race, or economic bracket over the other? Where has he said anything about rationing food? You're a cynic and a product of your environment. Open up that mind a little and realize that not everyone is as blessed the two of us. You have health care, are getting a college education, and could eat at Provinos tonight if you felt the urge. However, just because we share all three of those ideas doesn't make us "better" than the person our age who can't. I don't know you, but I'll speak for myself here. I don't deserve a single thing I own. I was born with a silver spoon in my mouth and have been handed nearly everything I own. Just because I was born with an advantage doesn't mean that I'm more capable of achieving big goals. Flipping burgers at McDonalds doesn't make you lazy... All things aren't black and white and issues are much, much deeper than you would like to think. If you're brought up in a home where your only parent didn't care about your school work and was on/selling drugs, there's a good chance that you're not going to get to where we are and that's not their fault. Once again, it all goes back to environment. I know for a fact that if I came from the background that many of my friends did, I wouldn't be where I am today -- sporting a 3.9 GPA, driving a new car, and living in a house that most adults can't afford. I'm not bragging b/c I often feel bad about it... But just put your blessings in perspective and realize that not everyone has been afforded the same opportunities as have. autkidd 0
Actually I couldn't eat at Provino's tonight. I'm having a sandwich... That is all I can afford... I understand some people have it rough... But there are ways to have a better life. We need to teach people how to make themselves better instead of handouts... America is the land of opportunity... not The land of handouts. What are we teaching the younger generation when we just give them things? We should be stressing the importance of hard work... When a girl of the age of 13 from the inner city has the main goal in life to have children ASAP and live off of welfare the rest of her life (I'll have to find that survey... read it a few months ago)... there is a problem... Too many people are abusing the system in place and that NEEDS to be fixed now. Not giving more people something else from money that I work hard to make in "free" healthcare... The more we start allowing the government to control our assets the more they will take away... "Give a man a fish, He eats for a day. Teach a man to fish_____" I'm not saying we should just let these people be... We do need to show them there are ways of achieving great things in life. I would much rather have my money from taxes go to a cause such as that then where it is going now.

arnaldoabru 11
Like I said, "Apologist." Muslims are already blowing up people all over the world. Where have you been. Christians don't wish you dead if you ignore them, muslims do. It's in their edict, convert or die. Hell they even kill other muslims that do not believe as they do. What do you think the muslims in Detroit are doing? They are blowing that horn 5 times a day and normal folks can't stop it. We are so tollerent that we eventually will have to comply or die. Just because it's not happening in this country yet, does not mean it won't. Look at the UK? What planet do you live on? I thought Motown was in Detroit

Where to start? First off he should have sent Wright out to pasture a long time ago. If Obama did not agree with what Wright was saying and preaching he should have left. Obviously he didn't disagree until it became politically expedient to do so. If it had not come up and become a political liability, Obama would never have "denounced" Wright. BTW - There is no evidence of Obama ever having a tuna melt with his arugula.

otterinbham 0
Here's the deal on the Wright thing. If my rector stood in the pulpit and said the things that Wright said, I would move to have him thrown out. My happy butt would be in the vestry committee meeting, asking for his instant dismissal. And I belong to a fairly broad-minded church.

If I were in a church and the preacher was spouting off the anti American and racist BS that Wright was spewing, I would leave. I would leave immediately. I would get up in the middle of his rant and tell him in front of the entire congregation that he was wrong. The fact that Obama didn't says a lot about him. Is that plain enough for you? I gotta say though...if a preacher was giving me, spiritually, exactly what I needed...well I think that makes it a little more complicated. But hey, different strokes. So a preacher can stand in the pulpit and tell lies and still be "giving me, spiritually, exactly what I needed"? Matthew 7:15 (Read all of Matthew 7) Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Matthew 24:11 (Read all of Matthew 24) And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. Matthew 24:24 (Read all of Matthew 24) For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect. 1 John 4:1 (Read all of 1 John 4) Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. As Christians we need to guard against preachers who preach and teach things that are not just wrong but out and out lies. Some are being deliberately deceitful, others are just stupid, others still have an agenda. Now you are seeing Rev. Wright being "reinvented", he is being sanitized and shown in a light that is not as disagreeable to the nation.

I just don't see how a pastor having political views (which all of them do), and believing ill of his government is lying and is something that should keep him from preaching. I know there is no way I can ever find a church that believes exactly as I do, and has a preacher that preaches exactly what I think....so I go to my Southern Baptist church and listen to the exceptional sermons, and politely disagree about some things the pastor has to say regarding society and other things. Having political views is not lying. Lying is lying. It's simple. Conspiracy theories in themselves are not lies. But conspiracy theories based on a lie or lies are themselves lies and are in my opinion obscene, disgusting and any preacher who traffics in such tactics and lies should be called out and exposed. This lie stands out. "America created AIDS to kill black people." Wright asserts that HIV was invented by the U.S. government as a tool of genocide. A national survey in 2002 and 2003 by researchers at Rand Corp. and Oregon State University indicated that about half of African-Americans believe the virus was created on purpose; and a quarter said the virus was first brewed in a government laboratory. I wonder where they got those thoughts from? But AIDS experts say that no scientist had the skill to craft the virus in the 1950s, when later medical tests say it first appeared in Africa. Have you ever heard this in your Southern Baptist church? "damn America, damn America!" It's not a matter of finding "a church that believes exactly as I do, and has a preacher that preaches exactly what I think.." It's about finding a church where you are fed spiritually. Where you get the truth and not anti American rants every Sunday. Again if I were in a church and the preacher ranted Sunday after Sunday about politics, I would leave. I was in a Southern Baptist church in Mobile for 16 years and never once heard the preacher rant about politics. He kept the sermons biblically based and aimed at teaching the people. About up lifting the people. About leading people to salvation. About showing people how to be better. Just for fun, here are a few more of Wrights quotes. "It is incontestable and deplorable that [African Americans] have committed crimes; but they are derivative crimes. They are born of the greater crimes of the white society." "God didn't call American to do what she's doing in the world now. God didn't call America to engage in a senseless, unjust war... And we are criminals in that war. We have committed more war crimes almost than any other nation in the world and we won't stop because of our pride, our arrogance as a nation" "We must ask the question, 'Why are there forty million poor people in America?' And when you... ask that question, you are raising questions about the economic system, about a broader distribution of wealth. When you ask that question you begin to question the capitalistic economy." (Guess we know why Obama is in favour of income redistribution.) “We bombed Hiroshima, we bombed Nagasaki, and we nuked far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon, and we never batted an eye.†“We have supported state terrorism against the Palestinians and black South Africans, and now we are indignant because the stuff we have done overseas is now brought right back to our own front yards. America’s chickens are coming home to roost.†(Sep 2001) “The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law and then wants us to sing ‘God Bless America.’ No, no, no, damn America, that’s in the Bible for killing innocent people. damn America for treating our citizens as less than human. damn America for as long as she acts like she is God and she is supreme.†(2003) “In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just ‘disappeared’ as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.†(magazine article) “Racism is how this country was founded and how this country is still run!…We [in the U.S.] believe in white supremacy and black inferiority and believe it more than we believe in God.†(sermon) “Barack knows what it means living in a country and a culture that is controlled by rich white people. Hillary would never know that. Hillary ain’t never been called a n****r. Hillary has never had a people defined as a non-person.†“Hillary is married to Bill, and Bill has been good to us. No he ain’t! Bill did us, just like he did Monica Lewinsky. He was riding dirty.†(sermon) “The Israelis have illegally occupied Palestinian territories for over 40 years now. Divestment has now hit the table again as a strategy to wake the business community and wake up Americans concerning the injustice and the racism under which the Palestinians have lived because of Zionism.†
