At this moment 27 HR's in the derby. I've never seen anything like this.

Edit, he finished with 28.

Longest went 518ft. UNREAL.

That was the most impressive display of power I have ever seen. And it is such a great story, coming back from drug and alcohol addiction, and 71 year old Clay Counsil pitching.

It was pretty cool how they were talking about the sound when he hit the ball was different from the rest of the hitters. They said the last time they heard that sound was when Bo Jackson was hitting. :big:

Wow, wikipedia is fast. The HR derby just ended and I just checked it and his bio concluded talking about the number of HR's he hit in the derby. I mean, it hasn't been 2-3 minutes since it concluded. I'm impressed

Yeah, it was pretty cool to watch. He was just not barely hitting them over, he was crushing them.

Too bad he lost though because they started from scratch in the finals. He still finished with the most home runs, 35, which was 13 more then Justin Monreau who won it. Heck, Monreau's grand total of 22 still was not as much as the 28 Hamilton hit in the first round alone.

I saw a quote on the distance of the HRs that was something along these lines

"I'm not sure I could have hit it there standing on 2nd base"

They were absolute monster HRs he was hitting. He was also very humble in the interviews afterwards.

I know this is being a dick after a great night...but did anyone else think they should test the guy for roids after? I mean I'm watching this, and all I hear is about his drug addictions, and this dude who's been out of baseball for 3 years is crushing the ball 520ft...28 times?

I'm sure he's clean, but you can't tell me the thought didn't run through your mind.

He was blessed with arguably some of the most raw talent ever put into someones body

The way he hits is just amazing to watch

So smooth

I agree. You're a dick. If you're sure he's clean, why bring it up? 'Roids never crossed my mind.

He's urine tested three times a week for all drugs under the MLB program (including roids) according to an interview I heard this morning.

He is tested more than any other player in MLB

So in the steroids era...a guy hits 28 round 1 homers...and the next closest has 9. Oh and the guy just happens to be coming off of a 3 year bout with drug addiction.

And you think it's COMPLETELY out of the question to even think it? Sheesh.

They just said he's tested more than any other player in MLB. There is NO chance he's juicing. Fact is, if he was juicing, he had plenty of time to recover for the last round. He didn't. He was whipped and lost his timing. Corked bat...maybe. Juicing? No!

I know he's not juicing. I know he's being tested like a questionable porn star.

I'm just saying, without that knowledge, the thought did stream through my brain.

It never even crossed my mind. He was a number one draft before he had his problems and his bat speed is incredible. He got in a zone hitting BP pitching.

The steroids era is over. The thought never crossed my mind. In fact the thought crossed my mind, "isn't it great that players skill has stepped up since the steroid era has ended?".

This is a guy that people considered the best player theyve ever seen. When you see Babe Ruth, or Hank Aaron, or Ken Griffey, or Bo Jackson hit a home run you dont think steroids because those are the greatest players of their era (maybe not Bo, but its possible he couldve been without injury). You don't need steroids to do that.
