Posted by Paul Gattis -- The Huntsville Times March 31, 2009 5:28 PM

John Calipari has accepted the job as Kentucky's basketball coach, leaving behind a program he led last year to the national championship game.

The (Memphis) Commercial-Appeal, citing a source close to Calipari, reported that Calipari has decided to take the job.

Calipari is expected to make a salary of about $5 million per year, the newspaper said, making him the highest paid coach in college athletics.

Calipari replaces Billy Gillispie, who was fired last week.

Check back for more on Calipari later tonight.

Tremendous Hire and the right hire. Calipari will do a great job at UK and will have them back on top of the SEC and in the group of top programs in the country. If he can talk meeks and patterson into staying and his #1 recruiting class follows him to UK, UK will be an instant national title contender next season.
