Briarwood Christian School has hired former Auburn University baseball coach Steve Renfroe to replace Lee Hall as the school's head baseball coach, BCS Superintendent Dr. Barrett Mosbacker said Thursday.

"Steve shares a similar vision and passion for athletics as well as for a deep and lasting spiritual impression on our student-athletes," Mossbacker said. "It's a combination of commitment to excellence and a spiritual impact on our student-athletes that led Steve to be interested in the position."

Renfroe was fired as the Auburn head coach in 2004 following a 145-92 record in four seasons at the helm, including a 60-60 mark in the Southeastern Conference. Auburn advanced to the NCAA tournament in Renfroe's first three seasons before missing the SEC tournament in his final campaign. Renfroe spent 20 years as an assistant coach under Hal Baird at Auburn before replacing Baird following the 2000 season.

Renfroe will also serve as assistant director of alumni development and director of athletic outreach and coach development at Briarwood Christian.

"Steve will mentor our coaches across all sports," Mosbacker said.

Hall, a former Central Alabama Community College and UAB assistant coach under Larry Giangrosso, resigned after leading Briarwood Christian (31-9) to its most single-season wins in school history in 2009.

"We are very grateful for the work Lee has done to help build up the program," Mosbacker said.
