Auburn men appear likely to open new arena against UNC-AshevilleEvan Woodbery AUBURN -- Although an official schedule has not yet been released, it appears the Auburn men's basketball team will open its new home against UNC-Asheville as part of a doubleheader. UNC-Asheville's schedule lists a Nov. 12 game at Auburn with an undetermined time. Auburn's women open the season Nov. 12 at 5 p.m. against Mercer. Both the men's and women's teams have moved into the new Auburn arena and are preparing to start practice there. Former coach Jeff Lebo, a UNC-Chapel Hill alumnus, had hoped to open the new arena against his alma mater. But after losing two key players and two key recruits from a squad that was already rebuilding, new coach Tony Barbee is likely to stock the schedule with more winnable games. UNC-Asheville competes in the Big South. SLAG-91 1,483 Posted August 25, 2010 Share Posted August 25, 2010 If ever there's a year when I wouldn't really gripe about a soft non-conference slate, this one is it...even if it's against a bunch of lightweights, our group this year just needs to win games and build a winning attitude.
