2017 QB thread (Merged)

We had no idea what we had in newton including the media. This is Jeremy Johnson hype. Actually probably a little less than Jeremy as with JJ there was Heisman talk and the media had us not only beating Bama but playing the Ohio state in the NC game. Hype was so real that even a few Bama fans were foregoing the idea that 2015 was our year. Then you add Verne and Garry comments saying that the 2015 team was better than the 2013 team top to bottom.  Good times good times

JJ was a heisman contender by virtually everyone nationwide. Lessons were learned. JS is thought to solidify depth and upgrade what we have at the position. He has talent around him. We are hopeful. We need clear definition on " anticipated ". Maybe need "ambiguous " definition too. I saw no concern or dread in the title.

I seem to remember, even beyond the AU faithful, a ton of buzz for a freshman named Cadillac even before he played a down in college.

The hype machine was pretty much full speed for Rudy too...

Stidham, like JJ before him, is at least somewhat of a "known commodity".  However I hope there's been a lesson learned.

I'd feel better if AU remained an underdog going into next year.

....but that's just me.

I actually remember going to watch the bowl game with my local Auburn Club in 2009 and everyone was totally buzzing about Cam at that point. I also remember everyone really expecting amazing things for A-Day only to be very disappointed and wonder if Trotter wasn't the better QB.

Just wait until we get into the Summer months when these so-called "experts" have nothing but time on their hands and will need to fill column or air space with college football material.

The hype will step up another notch, especially if he has a good A-Day. I think it will reach almost JJ levels. These media guys probably feel burned by how they were so wrong about him so it will curb some of the Heisman talk but I do think there will be a few people picking us to win the conference just because we added Stidham.

Expectations are going to be high this year...and they should be high. We need to live up to those expectations or Gus will be gone. Pretty simple. No excuses.

So how many times did Franklin even fumble the ball?

Once. Out of 47 attempts.

The one time he really got tied up in traffic. He's fine as long as he gets out of bounds or is 1-on-1. All you have to do is watch his film.  He doesn't protect the ball.

It would have been easier to just say 'π'.

He is extremely hyped up, which is the reason we need to stop doing it.  We don't need to hype this kid up and put so many expectations on him that he #1 can never attain them, or #2 comes in way to cocky and throws 4-5 interceptions in his first game.  We need to remember this guy is still pretty much a kid.  I noticed how everyone went crazy when his name was announced in the basketball arena on Saturday.  I just hoped he knows to take it with a true grain of salt so he can perform to the best of his ability.

Too late. Stidham knows the position he is in as does Gus. That is why he went to the SEC. The talent we have at WR, a great returning RB combination, a few good starters on the line returning, and a good OC equals expectations. Like it or not this year better be good or Gus is history.

Yeah, I don't even know what you guys are talking about. Cole asked a question, I just answered it. If you want my opinion, Franklin's rushing reminds me of a runaway truck whose breaks just went out. I watch with my hands covering up my eyes!

Well my point is people are exaggerating a bit. That one fumble he had I think it was just as much as Cox's fault as well. Well not just as much but I can see what happened. And sw first year he fumbled a good bit, (didn't lose them) maybe once Franklin get used to having the ball and settle in he could get better as well.

It's a shame the way some of you beat Franklin up though, he fumbles all the time without all the fumbles, he can't throw the ball without the attempts.....either you're supposed to be pro qb or you're not.....

With all that being said if he wanted to play qb he should've went to another school, no way he's starting ahead of the new guy

I get what you're saying Cole, but people aren't saying he fumbles all the time, they are saying he's a fumble waiting to happen because he palms the ball and holds it away from his body.  That was a red flag raised from his Juco film before he even took a snap at Auburn... and he kept doing it here.

If Stidham even comes close to living up to expectations then SW/Barrett will only see the field against patsies and Franklin is a man without a position. He is not going to take the place of a WR - we are loaded with talent for once. Also Kam (2) is perfect for the Omac role.

If he could secure the ball, maybe put him on the punt or kickoff team, but if he is wanting to avoid contact he probably doesn't want that position. You have to be fearless.

Been that way for years, Demontray Carter was a can't miss!

He was a poor man's Warrick Dunn.  Bobby took another small RB ( Ford or Minor?) that same year and let Terry have him.
